I would ask one of the FCA techs, I think Brian is? Usually just a little 1-2 lb. securely fastened at passenger feet. Does FCA require Halon?

Thanks Rob - is Brian out there? Rob your site is great - too bad I did not know about it a few years ago - could of saved $20,000 plus - oh well, I guess I have the best maintained Ferraris on the track - worth every darn bit and would not trade the experience for anything this summer one of the Andretti family is going to Road America play and to coach me and just have a blast

Bob Coates, the FCA Nats Track Chair, says metal brackets, 2 lb Halon or dry chemical, within drivers reach, for Red and Blue (Sport) as opposed to no extinguisher required for White (Touring) groups.

If the car has to have an extinguisher, it should be a good one and mounted properly.

A stock stradale fire extinguisher and mount will suffice

    No doubt! If you're into a ~$1,000 fire bottle.....[I'm hoping I'm exaggerating a little....:)]

Mine's a 2 1/2lb Amerex "Halotron" in a metal bracket (with twin straps). It's mounted on the "parcel shelf" behind the passenger seat - Doesn't interfere with feet [and hose ;)] A very easy DIY install BTW.

    Cheers,
    Ian

I don't think you're exaggerating at all; its ridiculously expensive from an ferrari dealer. I wanted one for my 575 and it was $1,000. But it is OEM, which is nice, even if its not as good. However I'd bet you can get one from ebay or ricambi for a lot less money.

And I've never really cared for the stock mounting point; with a harness on its difficult if not impossible to reach it. You mount location sounds much better.

"OEM" = "Red bottle with Cavallino Rampante sticker applied"

    :D

BTW, my Amerex is ~$150. :)

    Cheers,

There is a great looking stainless steel extinguihser on Griot web page for about $100 - if you want to go all the way, they have a stainless steel bracket that is abotu $100

Ian, the 575 fire extinguisher is wrapped in black leather (with stitching) and a special narrow size that fits between the passenger seat and door. I could sorta see the price for that. However I only used it once on a track event (575 is a lousy track car). I don't normally carry it because it cant be reached from the drivers seat, so its pretty much worthless. if the car catches fire, it would be a sad day, but **** happens.. ;)

However the stradale fire extinguisher is a standard size wrapped in alcantera, mine is black with red stitching. no horsey. iirc price was $750, still high but everything ferrari is ridiculously overpriced.

the proper kit is the one brian crall setup in my f40, pull the handle and the interior and engine bay is completely doused in 10 pounds of co2.

nice to see you at the hillclimb as usual
