He's really busy at the moment. If you look at some of my recent pictures, you'll notice a Daytona being worked on as well. He's working on 3 Ferrari's at the same time... all by himself!!!
3x Ferraris at once! What a legend! Does he work there all alone Sy? He does all the rubbing down, panel work and paint himself?
Apart from the glass removal and refitting, he does everything himself. There's only him in the workshop. He also doesn't have a mobile phone or a telephone at his premises as he doesn't want any distractions. he likes to work continuously. And there are no chairs there either so he doesn't sit around either.
Day 27 Looks like it's all ready for painting!!! Al's repainting the rear brake calipers so that the "red" matches the front AP Racing caliper. The rear caliper is actually one from a 355. It's supposedly better looking than the 348 one, but it doesn't have the "Ferrari" logo on it. I got some stencils from ebay which I've posted to Al so he can put the lettering on the 355 calipers. Also purchased some Liquid leather cleaner as well. Dave the detailer will be using that on the interior. Managed to find some LED lights for the front running lights as well. Should improve the appearance. i was for a few seconds tempted by blue LED's though. I did also consider getting a HID light conversion, but decided against it. Got two sets of Osram Night Breaker light bulbs instead. Al says.... "He's all cleaned off, masking removed & up on stands. Rear buttress seams sealed. Doors blocked down & cleaned off." Wow, I wish I could find a paint shop like this at that price here in the SF Bay Area. That work looks phenomenal. If anyone knows of someone like this, please, PM me. Thanks, Kai Congrats on this car!!!
Day 28 I got a big surprise when I received Al's emails today!!! Nearly fell off my chair!!!! He's painted it already! It's looking fantastic!!! can't wait to see it in the metal!!! Whilst the car has had a respray in the past, they didn't bother to do the strakes on the sides as it's hard to hard. There was a lot of overspray on it and only one coat of paint. Al also painted the bottom of the doors. According to him it wasn't that good out of the factory. Al says..... "Just needs blocking down with 800, 1200, 1500 then 2000 & machine buffing." . Just received the latest pictures. It's looking real good!!!! Al says...... "All wet blocked down (800, 1200, 1500) then orbital sanded dry with 2000 grade discs. I've begun the polishing (this is the 1st stage heavy compund) on the o/s of the roof & o/s/r quarter. I think you'll agree that it was worth spending the time getting the buttress inner panel decent." Looks fantastic, and it is not nearly done! Great thread. I think if I ever need a re-spray, I'll ship my car to GB!
Quoted from your first post "Such is my determination to win next years "best/cleanest 348" trophy that I am going all out to win and bring that trophy to europe!!!!" OK you officially have my vote, that car is over the top. You also should win the best post in 2008-2009....
Well done Sy, you managed to find a true perfectionist to do your car. His work is outstanding. You should send him a link to this thread, I am sure any future customers of his would be convinced of his quality and workmanship after reading all this. Congrats mate, she looks outstanding!
