Just a quick question if I may. I am in the process of fixing a burnt valve in my 348. The car had a small rear-ender prior to me buying it. Damage did not seem to come anywhere near the clutch. Current mileage 17,000kms, service notes show clutch replaced at 13,743kms, then check clutch and overhaul sleeve cylinder at 14,436kms. The clutch on take up in gear sounds like a hand full of nuts and bolts rattling around in there and can feel a slight kick back in the peddle. There is no rattle on start up or shut down, hot starts seem fine, no knocking while driving, accelerating or decelerating, no noise on or off the clutch in neutral. I have looked around at as many threads as I can find re the clutch and flywheel, kind of sounds like a thrust bearing or possibly flywheel grease??? Obviously I am going to take it apart and have a look, but just maybe someone can help point in the right direction to start with...... has anyone got any ideas or threads they recommend, I would apreciate ?
You MAY have a broken finger on the pressure plate, it's pretty common. Fortunately, it's very easy to remove the clutch and have a look. Your flywheel is probably OK if there is no indication that it has been slinging grease around inside the housing. You also may have a clutch disc that is soaked with fluid and "chattering".

But as you already said you are going to do, the best thing is to just open it up and see what's going on. I suggest posting a "how-to" thread this way if you find something different than what has already been posted it will help out other that may come across the same problem in the future.
Cheers, thanks for the sugestions and thread will post pics as soon as I find something but clutch fingers sound like to most likely culprit based on what you have said. I hope not though as it is only 3300kms old, but we will see.

Look like some grease has been thrown around. You may just have to repack the flywheel, and replace the seals. While you're in there change the triple seals.

Just wondering, the square "teeth" on your tool..., are they pieces of 5mm keyway steel? Also is it important to torque the nut up to Ferrari specs after rebuild? HEE HEE will do, Just been pouring over the "Grub Wars" thread http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=86136&highlight=348+grub+nut&page=6 Have to say "348 Paul is Right" every one else is "Wrong". The grub screw is just a glorified lock nut, ..................."that is all..." The grub screw pushes on the plug, that pushes on the fly wheel in one direction. The thread of the grub screw, pushes on the main nut that pushes on the fly wheel in the other direction. "Both work on the fly-wheel in oposite directions to lock the main nut,....... that is all" If anyone expects it to do any different, just grab hold of your shoe laces and see how high you can lift yourself up..... As for torquing the Grub screw to the same as the main nut ....... BS...... if the main nut was locked in with lock wire, bend tabs, split pins or bits of string, it would not be at 150ft/lbs...... just the specified amount for that lock device....... Ok I will get off my soap box and leave it there........
It is easy to access a 348 clutch. With a few simple tools and a medium degree of mechanical ability you can check and replace the clutch. You will need to bring it to a dealer so they can run it on the SD1 and reset to clutch parameters to a new clutch. Let me know if you want some more information.
Keyway steel mate. I did mine FT!! ****en tight! With some Loctite 277. Wont be coming loose anytime soon..........or at all! SD1! You have these clutches confused with the F1 clutch setup in the 355 F1's mate. How about you let ME know if you want some more information.
I used to have a whole thread on the fly wheel rebuild and clutch because of a hot starting issue. i think we lost it in the great server switch or crash or whatever...it was in may of 2003.
