Have any of you guys been accused of having a kit car? I have with several different Ferraris:

1. Driving through Burlington, VT in my 1986 328 GTS: As I went through the intersection, Loud guy with 2 college girls "Nice Fake Ferrari!" I assume b/c it was black instead of red.

2. Parked in Dewey Beach, DE (current 1993 348 S/S): Two hillbilly kids, one tall and skinny with a wife beater, trucker had and long denim shorts and greasy stubby friend:

Stubby Guy: Look, there's a Ferrari!

Skinny w/ WBtr: Talks slow walk around car, and after long drag from cigarette filter, says "That's not a Ferrari - That's a kit car!" Then he flicks his cigarette into the shrubs in obvious disgust and saunters away.

Just had my first this evening.

As I was getting out of the car at the local grocery store's parking lot, an old Cuban woman pulled up, lowered her window and started to complain in Spanish in a very anger tone that my car (348 Challenge with Challenge exhaust) was too loud. She stated that I should be ticketed and that the car was going to blow someone's ear drums.

I just smiled with a big grin and thanked her for the compliment.

 

My only bad comments have been from fellow Ferrari owners! The most memorable was when I had a Maserati GranSport, I took it to a resturant in my home town, it is a verander fronted place, quite homley, but rather expensive. I was on my own hoping to grab a quick bite. Anyway, as I walk up the stairs to the verander I get shouted at from a table of 3 guys, typical London city boys, arrogant as hell, one of who said somthing along the lines of 'if you get tap water you might save enough to get a real Ferrari' as he showed me a red key I instantly recognised as a F430 key, laughing and snorting with his friends. I though to myself I have probably just witnessed the most pompus, arrogant showing ever imaginable, so I said 'Oh you have a F430 do you' to which he replied 'yeah, F1 Spider' I said what colour? he replied 'Rosso Corsa' to that I said 'Oh, the same as my Enzo' sure enough I was jibed, I walked to my car, drove the 1mile to my house, got the Enzo, returned to the resturant and paid their bill, I told him to save his money to get some carbon ceramics and a electric seats...

Heh heh. That story rules -- best one yet.

First time I drove my 355 to work I went back out to the parking lot after about an hour to put the car cover on it. There were 4 guys standing around it, three of them were trying to convince the fourth that it was clearly a kit car!

My negative experiences usually involve some asshat showing off by pulling alongside the car then putting his engine against the limiter.

I had a Sheriff ask if my car was a Lotus, or a Ferrari today. At least he did not say nice Porsche I think I get 50-100 positive comments for every bad one. I had lady in a parking garage roll down her window and ask me if I was out to rub it in peoples faces. I said "no I'm just an enthusiast and enjoy driving". She drove away with a disgusted look on her face. Another time I came out of the grocery store and overheard some guy cursing my car. He was talking to himself about what a piece of **** the 348 was. I could only smile and walk past him as he was obviously jealous. Sooo many good things have been said, and so many conversations started. Haters are the minority.

 

Asshat's rofl. Yes there are lot's of asshat's about mixed in with assclown's which are the worst kind. Assclowns are the ones that must show you what thier car can do and nearly cause an accident.

 

While I'm not fortunate enough to own a Ferrari yet, I have heard many of the same comments that you guys get.

Last summer I was coming out of the local store when I saw a couple of older guys standing about a car length away from my
Countach. They were obviously trying to figure out what the heck it was and who would actually drive "one of those things".

Not being able to resist messing with their minds a little bit I walked past them and said "Man, the things some guys will do to stroke their egos" They both nodded but didn't say anything.

That's when I went over to the car and opened the door. I guess they realized that I was just joking and came over and asked if they could take a closer look. I spent about 5 minutes showing them the car and making small talk. Hopefully they came away from the experience with a positive image about what sports car owners are really like.

 

I am a pretty fast driver. While on my way to go boat shopping yesterday I must have received the finger 4 times. No reckless behavior just simply passing in the left lane on the interstate.

I have noticed you WILL see the haters come out in numbers if you drive so as the car was intended.


Pay close attention when passing, you will be astonished just how many cretins there are in this world!

 

Just wait until summer, the cretins will just take their shirt off at you...

Happens to me ALLLLLLLLLLLL the time. Losers,end of story.I cant believe this thread is still kickin ,when are we going to the German Beer joint?I'm thirsty!

I've had a few "hater" incidents in the past 3 years.

1. Weeks after I got the 348, a guy sitting outside a pub near my home gave me the "self love" hand sign as I drove past. I went home, got my camera, drove back in my honda, took a picture of him and posted it up on Fchat. My Ferrari Hater virginity had been broken.

2. Not so much a ferrari hater this one. I was washing the 348 and a guy i knew stopped to have a chat. His friend who i had never met before looked my 348 over and sneered "An Enzo is better".

3. My sister really hates my 348. When she gave me a lift to pick up the car when i had purchased, a stone cracked her windscreen. Months later, whilst getting out of the car, her phone fell out of her pocket and I drove over it.

4. A woman who lives local to me hates my car and the noise it makes. She's threatened to smash my car with a hammer as it wakes her up. I have been tempted to report her to the Police, but unfortunately it's my mother so i have to live with it.

It's quite sad really, but the most abuse I get is from other Ferrari owners. Which is a shame really.

 

My next door neighbor's kid has mentioned my 328 wakes him up when I am warming it up at 8AM, so I just remind him that if he weren't going to bed so late after coming home at 2AM on his Harley and waking me up that he wouldn't still be sleeping at 8!

 

I fear as the economy keeps sliding down, "class envy" is going to get worse.

Everything from "Nice VW" while driving the 928 to kit car comments about the Ferrari. The 944S is fun: "Nice poor mans Porsche" usually coming from rusty F-body's.
