When I make a slow turn to the right in my 360 spider, there is a low growling sound that comes from the right rear wheel. This will stop once the car straightens back out. For it to do this I have to be making a fairly sharp turn, like turning around in a parking lot.

Also, when I take a right turn fast and hard on interstate cloverleaf ramps, if I push it, I hear that sound from the right rear wheel and the brake light will come on. The brake light I’m referring to is the one that is IN the speedometer, NOT the one in the warning indicator cluster that tells when the parking brake is up. This brake light will go off if I slow down in the turn, taking the force off the wheel, and come right back on as I nail it. It goes right off, along with the sound from the right rear wheel, as soon as I straighten out.

No sounds from the left wheel and no light with left hand turns.

    Any pointers?

I'm no 360 expert but in general that sounds like low fluid and bad wheel bearing (two separate issues). But turning also involves tires other components which can sometimes make noise too. I'd take it to the dealer and let the experts diagnose it.

No dealer here (I'm right outside New Orleans) but have a top-notch mechanic that does all the local Ferraris. He's getting it next week. It's not the tires; it's more of a growling sound that DOES sound like bearing to me as well. I just didn't want to lead anyone. ;)

But if the brake light issue is just a low level thing, shouldn't the light come on when the car is slung the other direction as well?

You need a good technician (rather than a hack like me), but I am betting this is two seperate problems. The brake like could be as simple as being a little low on fluid, which can trip the light under hard cornering or braking (seen this issue before). The noise is possibly from your limited slip differential, could be considered "normal" or you may need a transaxle fluid change (when was it last changed?).

Seek a qualified technician, and avoid internet diagnosis like mine. ;)

The parking brake springs sometimes come loose and brake. They are located in the Hub area of the rear rotors. As far as the brake light it sounds like it is low fluid. If you tech is good he will not have a problem with the diag.

Doh doh DOH! Yes, the light WAS low brake fluid (slaps self in forehead) ;) Still have the sound. I take it in Tuesday to my mechanic when I'm picking up my 328 from him. I'll post the verdict when it comes in. ;)

You need brakes. If your fluid is low and the light is comming, your pads are worn out.

If your mechanic is Jim Lindsey in Kenner, he will have no trouble finding the problem!

Yep that's him. Jim and I just took the car for a spin and he's pretty sure it's the power steering; it just sounds like it's coming from the back right from where you're sitting in the driver's seat. He'll let me know more in a few days.

He also fixed up all the power door locks on my 328 and set the doors correctly as they were a bear to close and open after I redid the car. They're like butta now! ;)

Jim's a great guy, wouldn't even let me pay him for the work he did on the 328, just said he'll catch me all at one time when he's done with the 360. I think he just wants to scare me with one big bill! ;)

Most likely the reason why your Brake light only comes on in hard right turns and not hard left turns is because the level sensor is built into the cap, which is on the right side of the reservoir. Your fluid was probably not low enough to trip the sensor until the force of a hard right turn sloshed the fluid over to the left side of the reservoir. Sounds like you got the noise looked at, my gut for that was a wheel bearing as well, but without actually hearing it directly, I can't say that for sure. Hope this helps, and good luck.

Just thought I'd update this post after having the car service and the issues fixed.

tbakowsky, you were right, it needed new brake pads all around.

The sound was the power steering pump, as it was a tad low on fluid. Topped it off and all is well. I heard the sound from the right rear while driving, but had never listened from the passenger’s seat perspective (duh) and as soon as Jim rode with me in the car he told me from where he was sitting, it didn’t seem to be coming from the rear wheel.

    That’s why I’m not a Ferrari mechanic. ;)
