Bravo Brett!! I wasn't sure that was your car until I saw the truck next to it with the "roo bar" on it and then I knew it was Australia LOL.. Anyway, it looks great. The front looks perfect!

Can't believe another few months have passed by. Just another update. Main body has had the polyester layer painted ready for final blocking and then the real painting begins.

The engine is coming on really well. The gearbox has already been fully rebuilt and assembled. I expect the engine and gearbox to reunite in the not too distant future. Its amazing how time fly's.

moving right along. very nice. how much work are you having put into the paint? are you going for stock or a little better than stock look, or are you going for the mirror-like deep finish with zero orange peel?

Thanks J.S. it is moving along albeit a little slow for my liking.

Firstly I am not expecting any orange peel. Any sign of that and it goes back and in fact it won't leave the shop until it is signed off. I'm going for the original Gialo Fly colour of the car. Have come to love Ferrari's in this colour particularly the 308's. As far as the amount of work going into the paint, I think you can see from all the prepertaion that we are doing the very best that is available. I'm no paint expert but we are using the latest technology availalbe. It's been in the panel shop now for over 12 months.

The last photo's which show the car in grey are a polyester coating. This takes out any imperfections to give us as smooth as possible base coat. From here after fine sanding, an undercoat will be applied which will be a shade of yellow very close to the final colour. The final colour is then sprayed (Glasurit) and baked before the clear coat which has all the UV protection. I didn't realise that all new paints don't have the UV protection. The old paints had the lead which of course is no longer available.

I can't belive how the time has passed. I just went back a few posts and noted how I was saying I was expecting the shell to be out of the panel/paint shop by the end of January.

So it is really getting close to the final paint now. The undercoat for the main body went on today. It was a bit tight inside the booth to get some good shots so sorry if the angles aren't right. I can't believe how all the defined lines and edges are starting to show. There has been many hours that have gone into the preperation and I think the results are starting to speak for themselves.

I'm biased I know, but the 308 really is a beautiful car (OK I love the Dino as well with the curves). I've been following all the threads on these bare metal resprays in this 308 section and I still notice how beautifull the 308 is, even when stripped and naked. :D

So hopefully sometime in June the car will leave the panel shop and head back to the mechanic to be reassembled. I can almost smell the fuel from the induction. (One benefit of having a RHD car, we get to hear it and smell it. :D)

    Looks great!

That's why I try to drive around with the right window down as much as possible. :) I've also wondered if it's possible to feed the air from the left intake but I guess there's no room for that.

    Nice work there Brett!
Can you find out what kind of pop-rivet tool will be used to reattach the louvres in the rear hatch/engine lid? Space is kind of tight. Also, make sure they use black anodized rivets.
    Kind regards, Mick

    Paint went on today. :D

Picture quality isn't the best as they were taken looking into the booth so there was a little reflection. Also this was the second coat and the clear coat had not been applied. I'm very lucky to be allowed into the paint shop to take photos while the job is being done. Its all starting to come together. The cars been in the panel shop for 18 months. Gee how time fly's.

My favourite number is 27, today is the 27th, my stars are aligning. ;)

I'll take more pics next week once she's finished and out of the booth.

Thats a very interesting question Steven and great colour choice BTW. ;) When I bought my car it was re-sale red. I managed to get the Heritage Certificate free of charge out of Ferrari before Classiche (now a charge) came along to confirm the original colour was Gialo Fly 20-Y-490. Technology has changed from when the cars of our era were manufactured. Originally lead was used which is no longer available.

Glidden Salchi of Milan were the suppliers of paint up until 1980 from the research I've done. Glasurit took over from 1980 unitl mid 1995 when PPG became the supplier to Ferrari and still remains so. My car has been painted as close as possible to the original.

Heres a link to another thread I have which covers the colour. This may be of some interest. (be warned the Oz section is crazy;))

This is the FIRST time I have heard anyone comment about the 'whistle' caused by the single exhaust 308GTB. I have discovered what causes the whistle! The chrome tip on the exhaust pipe is not connected all the way around. Rather, it leaks exhaust gasses forward. And that not only makes that carbon mess on the pipe, it's also the source the whistle!

    Here's my whistling 308GTB.

    Hey Steven,

wouldn't you consider respraying your Yellow 308 back into grey? As the Bourgondie red interior goes very well with it.

Soon as though I started a new thread on colour, just thought I'd bring you up to date. Well nothing much has happened to be honest. Final paint has gone on and the black is being done. Here's a quick pick I took last week. I stopped by briefly today but didn't take a pic. It was being buffed and is really looking good.
