    Just about to pop the engine back in my 1993 348, but I cannot find the torque setting for the pulley wheel anywhere. I'm talking about the big central one that runs the alternator and AC compressor belts. If anyone knows the torque setting I can get on with putting her back on the road.

    You mean the crank pulley bolt? :eek::eek:

    Yup. It's driven off the smaller wheel on the Cam belt and has the two sets of grooves for the AC and alt. belt. The nut is a 36 mm.

    Just had a look and the manual says:

    Damper fastening to crankshaft - 196 Nm

    I have it on good authority that you can pretty much slap an impact wrench on it and nail it down as tight as you can get it. You don't have to worry about the motor turning then either.

    Thanks guys for the help. I used an impact gun to get it off at the start, but thought I needed to be a bit more subtle putting it back on?

    No worries PAP, you're always the first to respond to 'help' posts. Hope you had a good dinner. Will let you all know once the engine is back in and running.

    I'm a bit cautious with impact guns on cranks... after all, there are soft bearings back in there too. I also used the gun to remove mine, but blocked the crankshaft with wood (pan was off) and used a torque wrench to put mine back on.
