1977 308 GTB Fiberglass Euro Of course, I picked one of the coldest days to do it but now was the time to buy. I haven't driven it on the streets (not licensed for the road yet) but better weather is coming and I can't wait. I'm hoping to put a plate on it next week. Some pics. couple questions and a request if you ever get around to it or have the facilities available to you does it have a/c? (I will get to why in a sec) what country did it come from? what does it weigh? I am asking because I am trying to nail down the exact weight differences between Euro fiberglass GTBs, US fiberglass GTBs and early US steel cars (without the GIANT muffler). From the research I have done thus far, with equal equipment (ac installed, tools, spare etc), the weight difference is not as large as once thought. 100-150lbs max between Euro fiberglass GTBs and early US steel GTBs is what I have yielded thus far but I would like to have more figures available. The last Euro glass GTB I had weight figures on was from an acquinatance in Germany and those figures were around 2850lbs. Another acquintance in Germany had a '77 steel euro GTB that weighed 2913lbs. Only 60lbs difference between the steel Euro GTB and <150lbs difference from US steel GTB. No rush but it is my mission to have this ironed out one day. Much like actual bhp figures Ferrari like to massage back then congrats again!
Happy Happy Joy Joy Papa !!! enjoy in good health...great to have another Ferrari owner anxiously awaiting spring 09
Excellent find! A rare fiberglass beauty - highly sought, and cherished by all 308ers (only 712 made, and who knows how many survived)
Answers: 1. A/C - Yes 2. Country - Germany 3. Per Bill of Lading - Wt = 2,844 lbs The irony of all this - I was looking for just a "regular" 76-77 GTB (actually it started out as a Alfa Romeo GTV) in very good condition and saw this. What the heck, life is too short not to take an opportunity when it presents itself. Something that I never noticed was it seems the rear storage space is deeper than the US versions. I didn't have another 308 side by side to compare, but it just seemed deeper.
Hopefully very soon. I haven't driven on it since they reconfigured. Everyone else, thanks for the replies.
Congrats on the cool(no pun intended)car! What is the chassis number? I have 20695, also a German market car. No ac or radio. The luggage area is deeper than on a US spec car because there's less plumbing under there. Does your car have a thermostat in the oil line? Please contact me sometime so we can compare cars!
Fantastic. Thank you very much for the numbers! My only curiosity left would be how much fuel it had when weighed, but that is not too important because it is right about dead-on to the vehicle an acquaintance of mine weighed. This is just as I suspected though. The weight difference between the early US cars and Euro cars steel or fiberglass is not as substantial as previously stated by others.
How did you find this car in germany? Congratulations. It's red, too!! Joe Papa (thats really my last name)
