Hi, just purchased a 355 spider. As the 360 spider has roll bars, is the windshield frame the only roll over protection for the 355? Seems kind of flimsy. Was there a federal mandate requireing the roll bars on the 360 spiders? thanks Mike
Congrats on the 355, Mike, and welcome to the forum!! Let me be the first to ask... where are the pics? Please post some Your concern is also a concern of mine, and so I decided not to purchase a 348 or 355 spider. I was concerned with rollover protection and am afraid my head would be damaged in a rollover accident, which can occur even in an on-road accident. I'm not aware of anyone who has installed nice-looking rollover protection for a 355 spider. Best of luck with the car. Enjoy!
I can't remember where, but I have seen it done "nicely" - The tonneau needs to be modified to fit round it, but it can certainly be done. Most "track days" either won't let you run without, or at least not allow a passenger/instructor. I don't think the 360 protection had anything to do with "federal mandates" btw - But, I have been known to be wrong..... Cheers, Ian
No rollover protection, but the list of cars in the same boat makes for a big barge. Like anything not modern. And to be honest, you don't want to roll over in most modern open top cars with roll bars either. I mean, look at the rollbar in something like a 360, draw a line between the tip of the nose of the car and the rollbar, and figure about where your head and arms are going to be as you flop around. It's not going to be pretty. The 355 has a much lower center of gravity than most cars. Things will have to be going very wrong to get it upside down. I find it is better to compare the safety of a sports car to a motorcycle as opposed to another car. You are way safer!
