355 major, part 1. How to drop the engine...

As promised, I am writing-up the major service I did on my 355 over the winter.

I've planned 5 installments, this is the first -- "355 Engine Removal Procedure".

The write-ups take me a long time so it may be a while before I get all the installments done.

I'm not a mechanic by profession (these days I sit behind a desk all day), but I have spent half my life working on & engineering cars so I try to write these things as I would want to read & use them for myself.

I really like F. Chat because it's just about the only place I've come across where people actively de-mystify the whole F. Car "thing". I'm glad to be a part of it.

I´ve always been a bit scared of buying a 355 due to the heavy cost involved in having the engine removed for major service.
But now I feel different.
355: -Here I come !

(yes we do have F here, and we do drive them at least one day per year, which is the day the summer arrives, and vanish....)

 

You know what i like most of all about RFs work, its the fact that the guy is not a pro ferrari tec full of the mystical ferrari b*ll sh*t. But a normal guy who wants to pass on his know how for free, after learning the procedures him self. Take the clutch changing artical he did, how long has fchat been going? And it took untill RFs posting to get the fully documented procedure, and the guys not even a pro. And now hes taking the time to compile detailed documentation of an engine drop.
Rf you do know ferrari will be putting a hit on you dont ya? Well this is when i give my services for free LOL! Well done that man.

No offense, but if you earned your money pulling engines, you probably wouldn't tell your customers how to do it for free either. Just like the people at Starbucks aren't going to tell you how to make a Latte.

Dropping an engine isn't a closely guarded secret and who cares what happens at Starbucks.

Good job on putting together a pdf manual though. It should benefit a number of people.

 

The point I was trying to make was to not be surprised if someone who makes their living doing something doesn't share with you detailed instructions about it. If Starbucks doesn't work for you I've got a few others:

1. Don't be surprised if Steve Jobs doesn't tell you how to build your own IPod.
2. There's a reason why the Original Recipe is a closely guarded secret at KFC.
3. Coke and Pepsi don't share their formulas with each other.
4. Budweiser has a vault that they keep their yeast in, and only a certain few are allowed access.


Hope this helps all of the non coffee drinkers out there.
