Seems pretty consistent that I have some fuel spilling out from what I belive is the fuel "over flow". Probably by design as it happens only right after filling the car and I hit my driveway (fairly steep and car is at an angle).
After I get a few miles on the tank and the fuel level drops it doesn't sneak out anymore.

Anybody know what I should specifically look at or what 'overflow valve' might be faulty. I don't KNOW of it really has an overflow, btw, just imagining it does.

    Thoughts?

First question is do you have a check engine light on? The second is when you turn the key on the ignition position 2 does the check engine light come on? If you have a fuel leak there should be a check engine light for evaporative emissions. Meaning your fuel system. It is a sealed system and the car runs checks for leaks. The 360 has notorious issues with the valves that sit on top of the fuel tanks. They leak over time. This really sucks if you have a convertible because you have to remove the top to replace these lines. The easy way to find the leak is by the use of a smoke machine and a quality light. Smoke the fuel system from the fuel filler area and look for smoke. There should be none on a good system.

No, no check engine lights at all.

"notorious issues with the valves that sit on top of the fuel tanks"
This to me already sounds like something I will just have my mechanic take a look at during the spring service.
Thanks for the heads up.... sure don't want to mess with a legit fuel leak. Just wasn't sure if this was normal due to a crap design but instead this DOES sound like something may be faulty so I'll let the pros do what they do best.

    thanks

I don't know if your car has the dual tanks like my 328 but I had a similar problem and it was one of the fuel lines on the top of the tank

The orange vapor/roll-over valves on the top of the fuels tanks have a gasket/grommet at the bottom where they fit into the tank. Since the tanks are silver, it is easy to see evidence of fuel seepage. You will need to remove the side panels to gain access to this area.
The orange valves are the updated parts and there is an updated gasket that is green.
P/N for this is 195049. Make sure you have the colorful upgrades on your car. ;-)

You might want to have that looked at sooner rather than later. The exhaust manifolds are very close to the fuel tanks, it doesn't take much to ignite fuel vapors in a hot engine bay.

Well said. I would suggest doing this sooner than later also. Can get very dangerous. I have seen the aftermath of this gone bad. Total write off. Not good.

Update: yesterday I was out driving and got a CEL.
Got home, popped the filler door, and what do you know.... cross threaded/loose cap. Gas was being allowed to spill out slowly/slightly.

Anybody know what code I should get with a loose cap so I can confirm this is the cause of the CEL?

One reason to NOT move to Oregon - you can't fill your own damn cars! GGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!! Freaking pump monkeys.

    You're kidding?!

Sounds like it's worth removing and replacing the cap yourself. I'd never let a station attendant touch my Ferrari -- or any of my good cars, actually.

It's illegal to pump your own gas in Oregon. You have to let an attendant do it.

^^^^^ yup, what he said... and it's totally stupid! ^^^^

You can pump your own diesel though.... makes a lot of sense.

Wow. Next time I drive through Oregon I'm strapping a bunch of jerry cans to the car.

HA... no doubt. But I think they are called Tony cans for us. ;)

This is quite ironic since sometime last year I started a thread in the NW section complaining about gas jockeys. The last time I went to this very station, some other guy allowed the cap to slip from his hand and it skidded down the fender! I coulda killed him.

So, now two strikes on this station.... not going back there anytime soon.
