Spa, live or on T.V.
Err I'd be at serious risk at going off topic here, I can think of loads.. But I like this slightly adjusted by me quote from J Clarkson: Having a Ferrari on the drive and not driving it is a bit like having Keira Knightley in your bed and sleeping on the sofa...
SPA by far. I will always like the old Nurburgring and of course Watkins Glen. I would really like to see the guys take on Road Atlanta. That would be fun to watch.
Monza: best setting, most history but not the best track in its current configuration. In fact this thread might be retitled "Which track has suffered the least?". And yes I've been there, see avatar.
The question wasn't directed at you, but at somebody who calls it "the best track ever". I'd be interested why? The history aside (which is great), the track layout is nothing special. What used to be a great and fast track is now an emasculated mess with one grandiose turn. For spectators (I've been there too) it is mildly interesting with very limited views as the track is completely flat and all you see is the 100 yards in front of you. There are worse tracks, but there are a lot of better tracks. Regardless of whether we talk layout or spectator experience. To call Monza the best ever just because it is Ferrari's home track (it isn't even that), is short sighted.
Picked Spa, Monaco, and Monza because they are my favorite to watch the races at. I know Monaco is a bit of a procession, but still that is the only F1 track that I could never imagine racing at, it is just really scary and on the edge. Monza is my favorite because I like the set-up and the history. Spa produces great racing.
Quite. And to drive on it with what? Imola used to be a cool track, for sports cars. A bit tight for wheeled space shuttles, though, ... That's one of those tracks that should have multiple entries: Monza of what vintage? (With or without the banked curve?) The Ring would be another one. Have you seen what FIA has been doing to WRC, though? They want to run events every *other* year, just to add more venues? They've split up the series into regional championships? They gave up the Monte Carlo to IRC? What the heck have they been snorting?
Spot on. I hope nobody is as naive to mistake the current Nuerburgring of F1 with the Nordschleife. The modern Nuerburgring track is a sterile track, but still more entertaining than the modern Monza, a track that today has as many chicanes as it has turns. Sounds horrible. I lost all interest in Rallying when they outlawed Group B. Rallying in the eighties with turbos was awesome. Everything that came thereafter was just not the same anymore and from what you're reporting things are even worse now. But what do you expect in an era where they run the great rally that connected the European with the African continent in South America? It's all marketing hype.
I had to pull the trigger on Spa, but Suzuka would be a close second in my mind. As some others pointed out, having run the Green Hell myself in a rental car if that were an option it would hands down be the choice!
It's too bad you can't have a choice of things like 'old Spa' vs. 'new Spa', old 'Ring vs. new 'Ring, but then the Poll would be HUGE. Personally, I like the Kyalami circuit from the 70's, but I don't like the 'new' one.
I don't get why so many voted for Monza, that track sucks. It's probably just the Ferrari association.
Spa #1, but Silverstone and Magny Cours are close behind. The first F1 race I went to was at Silverstone, and I've always liked the layout of Magny Cours.
