lol well if he can do that and still win 9 gold medals more power to him. A good friend of mine from High school was the fastest 400m sprinter in New England his senior year, we used to smoke together all the time and always the day before his races for "good luck" It just doesnt effect some people like it does others. Post a link to that story too if you could.

He smoked some pot? Woopie. It's too bad the group-think demonization of pot still has a hold. And no I don't smoke it, and I don't drink because I just don't like either, but the sheer hypocrisy of a society that endorses alcohol and then makes a big deal out of this? Ridiculous.

But he could have! Drug addicts are unreliable, criminals, immoral, likely to steal and ahh what else... they tend to smell because they don't bathe often. They're likely to commit other more serious crimes, take more dangerous drugs and everything else that's wrong with the world. Down with Phelps! Down with Phelps!

...on second thought, it's obiously a key part of his training regimen. How else could you ingest the quantity of food that he does?

I was talking about... uhhh, maybe... Major League Baseball, the Olympics, regular people, Doctors, Lawyers, politicians, Priests, Law Enforcement personnel, baby sitters, dog walkers, crossing guards, members of the military, teachers, judges, local sports heroes and any other human I failed to mention.

At least he was out right and honest about it. But really, the guy is almost perfect proof of what happens when fame & money come to upcoming kids. But, I still have respect for him. Could have been cocaine or other drugs....

Sadly there is a 4 year ban if any athlete is caught doing any drug.

I smoke and can stay on an elliptical machine indefinitely and am not winded. I don't smokve very much these days but used to go through a pack a day and could stay on a stair stepper forever and not even get winded. It does affect people differently.

Pretty typical for athletes/celebrities to have the world by the balls and then blow it like an idiot.

I have mixed feelings about this. I swam in college and think Marijuana should be decriminalized, but man, this was REALLY stupid! I read Michael’s book and am a big fan. With the DUI years ago and this he’s just not being very smart. I could care less if he smoked and come on, that wasn’t his first time. All those statements he’s thrown things away with the fame and money aren’t true. Only difference now is everyone knows who he is and under more attention, he won’t be able to do anything without someone taking a camera phone pic. Just so stupid to do this at a house party where you know everyone was watching. Credit to him for admitting and not trying to cover up.
