    There may be something more to this, Mercedes and BMW both expressed feeling of concern over the loss of a US and Canadian Grand Prix, siting North America as their largest sales market

    I agree. Those companies whose business is racing will stay because they have no alternative (other than to go out of business), while companies whose business is something else, i.e. car manufacturers, will pull out when it no longer makes economic sense for them to be involved in F1.

    Maybe, but my guess would be that this is a strawman argument and the real motive is to cut costs.

    Points:

    They are seeing Honda get away with it - probably without much loss of dignity. Who knows if Toyota is to follow? Porsche has been out of the game for quite some time and is selling about as well as any other high-end sports car make.

    USGP was probably gone forever as soon as the tire fiasco; i.e. it was walking dead after that.

    I can't imagine any US or Canadian F1 fans that ONLY watch the US or Canadian GP...F1 fans want to see the cars in ALL the races and they will certainly know who wins the WCC and the WDC, even if their own country has no race.
