From new, what colours were they available in? I thought just white, but I'm now informed that black was available as well. Any other choices?

The wheels that came on the 355CH were all white as far I have seen and picked up on in my research. I had 3 sets with my car all were painted various colors but all were white originally. I purchased a new rear set a few years ago and they came in white also. Have never seen them black originally.

Ferrari will do whatever you wish for the right money. If some CH teams wanted them blue, gold or black, I can't imagine Ferrari not painting them from the factory.

Good info to know, because Ferrari couldn't answer the question. BUT, Speedline sent the wheels to Ferrari for the teams. Did Ferrari repaint any before releasing to the teams??

well, i can't answer that question, but logic would dictate that they just came out of the factory either as a challenge car or the kit to fit later and were coloured/painted by the teams once they got them. i doubt ferrari with their arrogance would have offered them any other way.

So do they still make them? I thought they were pretty hard to come by.

I bought my speedlines from the factory. They came white or black as standard. I do not know if they were produced in custom colors. I have an extra set like Ferrari285 that I'll send out to be repainted and then sell. If anyone needs an extra set PM me.

I would be interested in a set of used or new 355 Challenge (Speedline) wheels. What is todays going cost for these things? I am new to the group and would like to get some track time with serious grip on CH wheels.

    Ciao,

    SRR

No which is why the wheels are so expensive on the used market if you can find them at all.

No, I bought the claimed last set of OEM wheels in the country from FNA in white but sprayed them black. White wheels just get so dirty. They looks really nice just like a black car for about 20 mins after you wash and wax it.

Well that is very interesting if true. Speedline in america can't even get them. They claim they are no longer made. I tried to buy a second set to use with my rain tires. Even 355 oem wheels were pricey for what you got. So, Instead I had to use my OEM 17's for rain tires which is one of the reasons I never went to a Big brake kit because the big brakes would not fit under the 17" wheel. Real 355C wheels for sale were few and far between.

And the real challenge wheels had a sticker "for off road use only". They were not intended for street use.

I'm calling B.S. on the availability. (not on Aircon personally... just on the availability).

I'd LOVE to be proven wrong, because I'd like an extra set for my car too.

It is true you can buy them now. I have an email thread from the guys in Europe, but they will set you back a pretty penny. I think they want like 900euro per corner...ouch!

I originally posted this elsewhere on 26th February 2008, but some of you may be interested.

"I contacted Speedline UK today to get more information.

The 355 Challenge wheel that they currently make is for Track use only and they do not recommend it for the road. The wheel has not been homologated and they have not done the normal testing for road use as they do on other wheels they manufacture.

There is currently no legislation in the UK that says you can't use those wheels on the road. However, my personal view (Angelis) is that insurance companies may in the event of an accident refuse a claim although there has been no incident of this as far as I know

They currently sell the 355 challenge wheel in white only for £550 plus vat for each wheel (£2,500 for the whole set).

Thanks to David Williams at speedline for the above info (hope I got it right )"

    Um, "£550 plus vat for each wheel (£2,500 for the whole set)"? Let's see... £550 * 4 = £2200. :)

Aha! You must mean that the £2500 *includes* VAT?

    vty,

Sorry, didn't make it clear. Good thing I never became an accountant. :D

    4 x £550 = £550
UK Vat (sales tax) at 15% =£330

    TOTAL: £2,530

Although this was last years price and the £ has collapsed against the Euro currency so the cost has probably shot up.
