i could taste the exhaust 30yrs. before i got one.
A college friend I hadn't seen in 20+ years stopped by the other day... We were catching up and he asked me if I ever got "the Ferrari"...... I said, yes, and asked how he heard. He said I had talked about "my car progression" all thru college like it was a life plan. I didn't realize I did back then, but I stuck with the progression, going from the Toyota Celica GTS to other sporty cars, including a VR4, Z06, etc..... I skipped the 911....damn... but will get one just to have had one... but the 328 always has been my ultimate owner machine... yes, I can dream about others.... but my reality, my goal, and my heart has always been with the 328. and that's why I can honestly say ......
Yes, I always knew, it's in my gene pool (Italian American). When my wife said okay, as long as you pay cash, go ahead. So I am now on my third Ferrari and get, this, when I bought the 2nd Ferrari, my wife was upset I sold Ferrari #1 (a Sera Blue 308). She said, and I quote, "I never told you that you couldn't own two Ferraris!" I am blessed beyond belief - great wife, and now own a TR & 360. What I didn't expect was a beautiful, intelligent and most understanding wife
It wasn't a concerted plan for me, it just happened very suddenly. When I was a teenager, I had a poster of a red Daytona spider on my bedroom wall, but I wouldn't say that ownership was a goal. I didn't see myself as a "Ferrari guy". Living abroad for the last 13 years, didn't seem to make much sense to own a car, period--wasn't necessary, more expensive due to taxes, a bit "showy". When I did buy cars, they weren't sports cars. The most enticing Ferrari experiences were during trips to Italy: Getting passed by a dark blue 550 doing 180km/h on the autostrada and feeling my Renault Clio getting sucked into the slipstream; looking out my hotel window when spending a few days on Lake Como and seeing/hearing a red Barchetta growling by on the narrow street below. The Ferrari in its natural habitat was a wondrous thing to behold. ...then I suddenly got a few test rides in different types of V8 and V12 F cars and it planted the seed. I had spare cash, so I started considering.... 3 months later I got a 550 as a second car, then a 575. I plan to keep it forever. Also thinking about getting another 550, TR, or 330 GTC for use when I'm in the US.
I knew when I was 10yrs old and my parents moved to a weathy nieghborhood! As I initially lived on the rough side of town and litterly had the fight my way home from school at least 3x /week I did not fit in well socially. That is until I met a women up the street who taught me ways of the wealthy. Her husband ,a neurosurgeon owned a Ferrari and allowed me to sit in it at times. I knew one day I would have one of my own. By age 15 had 3 businesses going with quite a cash flow. Business however was not my future as Vietnam changed my life forever. Medicine became my life and Ferrari remained my dream . Well many years latter , 5 Ferraris, 28 Porches etc. I more than fullfilled that initial promise that I would own a "Redhead". Docf
Since I was 5 yrs old I was always into cars. But my family has never been into cars except for basic transportation. But I worked in HS and college during the summer I would paint peoples houses detail cars with a cousin that work at a dealership and work in an ice cream store at night just because I wanted a nice car. as far as a Ferrari. I always thought of them as the ultimate car to own, but you had to be wealthy to own one. When I was dating my wife Magnum was on and we would sit and watch it and all I cared about on that show was the Ferrari. My wife would ask me if I could would I buy one? Oh yeah I said. Maybe one day she said. Well we got married and went to Hawaii for our honeymoon. My wife told me that you could rent a Ferrari here. So we did, and after that I was ruined. For the next 23 yrs of my life that's all I thought about. Well I bought my house and payed of my mortgage off and started looking for a 355. Well when I found one a little over 2 1/2 yrs ago I started geting cold feet about how much it was gonna cost. So as I sat in my living room thinking. My wife came in and said what are you gonna do? I don't think I'm gonna do it. Well she started yelling at me saying first of all you payed off our house you have never denied anything to me or our son and I know how long you've wanted this car. Now don't be a p***y and go buy that car. It now sits in my garage and just like many of you every time I go in my garage I can't believe it's mine. Please don't pinch me.
Pretty much don't even think about it anymore. I suppose I can afford one, but not a current goal at this point. It was, but not now. RMX
I did that too in my teens. I labeled mine "Ferrari Down-Payment" - I still put loose dollars and change inside periodically.
This thread motivates me! I am 100% positive I will own an F-Car one day. Actually, my goal really is to get an F-40, but that will take a bit longer.
basically YES I knew from the day i turned 15 and got hooked on F1 with my older brother and favourite uncle!..then I saw an ad for an 86 328 GTS in a magazine and I fell in lust !!! always hoped I'd have one before 50 but never dreamed I'd have MY VERY OWN Ferrari before hitting 40
I customized sports cars & raced RX-7s SCCA for years before I could go for the gold. I did all my homework & was ready when the oportunity presented & I received the extra kick. Found the perfect 328 GTS in a year.
I always knew I would have one, age did not come into it used to see a 246 Dino when I came out of school passed everyday at lunchtime, started into Porsches and eventually tallied at 4, the thing is all my family and friends knew my desires for a ferrari and encouraged and supported me all the way 6 years ago I traded my porsche for a 1995 328 GTS in Chiaro blue absolutely loved it but in the meantime made some money on property and the chance of a 355 GTS F1 came up test drove and loved it but could not keep both so traded the 328 for the 355, had the 355 just over 5 years now and love it more each time I drive it do not ever see me selling it as its become a part of who I am. Hope this helps.
