The key has to be on. Because it would make too much sense to have a gas door that WON'T open driving down the highway, but WILL open if you pull up to the gas pump and turn off the key. Jay
PS there is a small T-Handle emergency release under the engine hatch adjacent to the fuel filler, under the lateral cover.
I'd love to make fun of this guy, but I, too, was guilty of this my first trip to the pump. I was right around the corner from Wrigley field in Chicago and took an embarrassingly long time! *blush*
I wired mine up to pop with the aux button of my alarm remote... without needing the ignition to be on.
A write up on this would be worth it. I usually forget to open the fuel door as well and have to turn the ignition back on.
Yep, have NEVER cleaned anything in there!! Will really clean it all up when I do the engine out major. Hopefully sometime this year! No mate, I dont unfortunately.
Never had an issue my first time but sometimes I forget and turn the car off as I get to the gas pump and then have to turn the key back to the on position to open it. Sometimes I have to hit my button 3-4 times. Off-topic in my Honda S2000, first time I drove it I could not find it. I spent about 2 hours and many people including the gas station attendant tried to help. Eventually I had a friend give me a ride back home (out of gas almost), hopped on the S2KI (s2000 forums) and searched it. (no manuals)
