All my fav musicians are British. But Coldplay aint one of 'em !

I love cheesy soft rock from the 70s like 10cc, Climax Blues Band and Firefall...I have a great mix of a couple hundred songs of that stuff. In 20 years I can see adding some Coldplay songs to that mix.

I can't stand any song that passes off "la la"s, "ya ya"s, or any other stupid vocal sounds as lyrics. I also hate when a song has the word "singin'" in it. How redundant.

Well, there IS one album like you described: Brian Eno's 'Airport Music'.

GUARANTEED to put you to sleep. And it's actually quite good, IMO.

Back on-topic: If Coldplay won awards, let's imagine how 'good' the competition was (?)

Count me in as one of the apparent few FChat resident, "non-haters "of Coldplay. I like them a lot...and I am married....(to a girl). Shoot... Bob Dylan made a career of mumbling great lyrics, and I think he's fantastic.

As for U2...another of my sacreligious hands is raised in favor. They have had my ear since about 1980, and they still are a heck of a band, IMO. Sometimes I don't care for certain songs of bands I really like, but you can't hit a homer EVERY time.

I guess I am the kind of guy that appreciates everything from James Taylor, Jefferson Airplane, Josh Groban, to Rob Zombie, to Jay-Z.

I also was excited to see Robert Plant and Allison Krauss win a couple days ago, regardless of how I feel about the Grammys. Oddly enough, in addition to having the opportunity to meet Bob Dylan some years back, I've met both Krauss and Plant on separate occasions, but it's been quite awhile.

I also like Joe Satriani's guitar work, he's amazing. I actually had no idea of the controversy about Viva La Vida. I'll have to take a listen.

But hey...opinions are like &$$h0les....everybody has one. (you know the rest).

I guess I am a little lost, then. You've made many posts here over the years referencing your various jobs in the music business; I assumed that you did some original stuff. No matter then. So, were you a DJ that took existing songs and remixed them or whatever for a night club setting? Please set me strait here. I have a convoluted amalgam of half ideas here...

Insofar as me coming off as ****** to you, that's fine. You are picking on a group that near as makes no difference to me has no original sound of their own....and you, as far as I know, lawfully and rightfully took other musicians' stuff and remixed it...kind of the same deal to me, but please enlighten me as to the differences... I genuinely want to know because you are a poster that shows a lot of smarts and some uncommon talent.

And wining an award is in no way indicative of talent.

    Thanks for that.

Their label could have probably avoided all of this trouble with some kind of mechanical license from Satriani. It does bring attention to the song.

The last time I can really remember something similar was when The Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony" got embroiled in that sample tangle with the Rolling Stones. They had to give up every dime in royalties, including future licensing royalties from Nike.

I love Satch but upon further reflection he's not going to win unless he can find some evidence it is not a coincidence.

That is NOT a complex chord progression...Im sure there are other songs out there that have identical progression and tempo. Im positive of that.

Did Coldplay rip it off ? Probably... but I dont think it can be proven.

Remix I dont think your comparrison is true as the Verve actually sampled the Stones didnt they ?

Yeah, they took a piece with permission on a 50% split basis and, after the record was released, the publisher rescinded and demanded all of it. What I mean is that was the last time I remember public bickering over composition usage. 98% of that song was the Verve...that 2% is what got them in trouble.

There was another one recently with Avril Lavigne and "Girlfriend". Not as well-known.
