Purists look away!! I dropped the car off at Wicked CAS (car audio systems) up in Kingston NH. They are doing a hell of a job. They are rebuilding the doors with pods that are supposed keep a stock appearance. I am using Hertz audio Mille 6.5 components, a 8inch Hertz Hi engergy sub, and an audison 5.1 amp to run it all. The components are run through an active crossover. This means that 1 channel will be dedicated to each mid and tweeter. I am also having a Passport radar installed, and a trickle charger. It turns out i had an after market speaker in the passenger door with a tweet in the dash, and a factory speaker on the drivers side. Also it appears my car was hit at one point the drivers door was originally yellow and painted red. Here are some pics that they posted on their website: http://www.wickedcas.com/gallery/v/customers/f355
Definately... They actually asked me about other Ferraris and what their interiors looked like and such, because they were thinking of building molds of certain parts to make reproductions. I just wanted to add...The door panels they are making are supposed to replace that leather trim piece and will still flow with the interior lines. Nothing they have done to the car required permanent modifications. I also put some of my own pics on my cardomain site. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2588662/5
Sounds line the body shop was cutting corners. Used door, and did not remove the higher quality speaker in the original door over to the replacement door. Nor did they cover all the yellow inside the door. Going to be a nice system, but gosh, how much extra weight are you adding with the metal bracket, equipment and enclosures!
Meh I dont track the car or anything. This is jsut for my own enjoyment. I also wanted to add that today they got some really good leather (pretty much a perfect match) and carpet (which i believe is Porsche OEM) to finish the doors with. Both are a perfect match
Very nice quality work and great choice of components. ENJOY! One small suggestion, punt the Passport and get a Valentine radar detector.
I may be interested in your door enclosures. I also have a 5.1 system. I am thinking about having a fiberglass enclosure made to go behind and in-between the seats on my spider. I would then have the front mid-ranges in the doors and the rear mid-ranges behind the headrests with the sub between the headrests where the unusable glovebox is located. Right now my door speakers are hitting the stock carpet, so I need a solution to give them more room.
+1 Everyone has been trying to get their arms around a sub enclosure for the 355 and that's the best looking one I've seen so far.
Ok gang... to answer questions about the sub box. They said if there is significant interest, they will replicate the box. It will cost 500 unfinished. I believe they said 750 with the hertz audio sub (hertz audio is the speaker line made my audison amps in italy. The speakers are reasonably priced and are compared to speaker set that cost twice as much.) and finished in OEM Ferrari carpet. My box was MDF, but an subsequent boxees with be fiberglass. I will try to get a decent 'finished' pic today. The box is completely done and its nice and sturdy, you can rest your feet on it no prob. The doorpods would cost 550 a piece to replicate.
John, Thanks for checking on the price for us but that's pretty high for an unfinished box. I understand there is a lot of custom, manual labor but it's more than I would be willing to spend. Tell your shop they did a great job and thanks for responding.
np...heres a few pics of the finished box. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
yes... it will be fiberglass. mine was made from mdf but i think they are going to make a mold and it will be easier to make additional boxes.
