BTW, incase you're one of the 2 people on the planet to whom I've not bragged about the kitchen I built in 2006, here it is: http://pages.villagephotos.com/page.asp?page_id=3957
I just pissed in my pants looking at that truck load! Throw in 200 BF of Cocobolo and I'd give up sex! Image Unavailable, Please Login
F&P invented the dual drawer dishwasher but according to Consumer Reports makes the worst one. I was looking into them and the repairs per 1000 number was 4 times higher then the next worse rated one. I wash shocked how high the repair rate was on it. I do not remember the top rated one though.
I remember that thread. Excellent craftsmanship!! Are you planning on building the cabinets for this project?
Since the house I'm renting seems to have the world's worst kitchen, (and the kitchen in my old condo had even me cooking), I can point you to a few items: Range: Gas. You just can't do an Alfredo sauce on an electric "lo-med-hi" range. "Now you're cooking with gas" isn't just an old ad slogan. And newer gas ranges have electric spark ignition, so no pilot lights. Cabinets: storage, storage, and more storage. It's amazing how much stuff you collect. Leave one cabinet for big boxes (like family sized Corn Flakes). Put a "lazy susan" in the otherwise wasted corner space inside the cabinet. Other corners are good for storing the gimmicks you don't use often, like the bread dough hooks for your blender, or the Belgian waffle maker. But *don't* waste the corners by blocking them off. But do seal the cabinet seams, especially the floor cabinets. You want to keep the bugs from getting in from the basement, outside, etc. Plumbing: lots of valves. You want separate shut off valves for the fridge ice maker, the pot filler, the dishwasher, etc. You won't want to have to shut off water to the house every time you upgrade an appliance. (But maybe that's just this neighborhood -- I've had more plumbing problems around here in a couple of years than I had in a decade in MA. I'm beginning to wonder about the local water.) But the first feature to design into a kitchen comes with the house design -- putting the kitchen near the garage, so it's not such a long haul to bring in groceries. Depending on the geometry of your house, if the garage is down one level, you might think about a dumbwaiter to bring the groceries up, rather than several trips on foot. Another handy feature can be not putting all your appliances in one kitchen. If you use coffee mostly in the family room or office, you might put a mini-fridge and sink there, with counter space for a coffee maker, so you don't have to be running in and out of the kitchen all the time. And leave a place for a fire extinguisher -- a type appropriate for oil fires. (Careful cooking with some sauces. ) Just an old bachelor's view.
Go cook Macaroni, you midget Gordon Ramsay. As far as cooks go, you are an Oompa-Loompa with a bent spatula and a dead palate.
At least I can afford the dollar menu. Your idea of mass transit is a Hefty trash bag and a steep hill covered in snow.
...and what? What does this mean? I know where you live, too. Are you going to get all Fight Club First Rule on me?
I have one of these cook tops in my kitchen now and it will boil water in 45 seconds. I am having the larger cook top installed in the new house because like you say, I can't live without it now. Just can't do stir-fry thats all. James Bond could not sneak in and out of the house without me getting the chance to demonstrate the cook top to him. They are just amazing if you have not seen one in action. here is a video http://cache.vendaria.com/vpop/VpopV6.html?ct=7&ctname=CT630X510D630X390&fw=630&fh=510&logo=21&fv=10&ap=vnd_kenmore_36_inch_induction_cooktop&purl=MAIN_kenmore_36_inch_induction_cooktop&iid=REbpgzKvvqKLLKvlmvKqgwIuuIJIKL&bg=FFFFFF&nm=vpop&curl=&err=7&title=sears.com&tp= As for the kitchen in my new house...I am going to put in 2 or 3 new drawer dishwashers and never have to put dishes away.
