Hello, yes its sad. As I believe Kalifornia had the highest amount of people leaving the Golden State in the union. 180,000 more left than coming in, last year. Even the Illegals are leaving, though not enough since they have thier babies and free medical care, free education, etc. Sadly Norm

 

Lets not blame this on the Govenator. It is the legislature that has messed this up. At least we passed in Nov. the measure that changes the drawing of political lines to a 3 judge panel. Up to now they drew up all the areas so that they were either all right or left. This resulted in who ever won their primary election a sure win on the big day. To win the primary the candidate had to be hard left or hard right and this has resulted in everyone that has gone to Sacramento being so far to either side they can never agree on anything. Now the redistricting should be more based on population areas and not political and should result in more moderates getting elected.

 

At least the people voted to tax themselves for the train they don't need.

Does anyone remember why we started the Lottery? It was to SUPPLEMENT the education budget. It was supposed to pay for athletics, music, and other elective or after school activities that were facing cuts after Prop. 13. What did our legislature do? With a new funding source for education, they diverted tax revenue to other things and education did not get supplemental money, the lottery was funding it. For years, they diverted gasoline taxes away from roads to fund education, Medicaid, etc. Now they are going to mortgage the future revenues from the Lottery to temporarily fix the shortfall. When they had record tax revenues a couple of years ago, did they pay down debt or establish a rainy day fund to cushion the inevitable downturn? Of course not. Because the term-limited egos only have a limited time to shine, they all agreed to spend like drunken sailors. At least sailors spend their own money.

 

He did get elected. Unfortunately, although he talks tough policy in the radio interviews, he is just another money sucking leech. If he was getting anything done, you would have heard about it. He has a good PR machine.

If you are talking about being elected Governor, then I still think he is overated. he was /is one of Arnies key advisors, and I just think he has had his chance to put up or shut up.

Highlights of most recent STATE budget proposal

The most recent proposal to close California's $40 billion budget deficit continues to evolve. Lawmakers also are waiting to see how much federal money California will receive under the federal stimulus bill. Here are provisions in the latest budget proposal:

Revenue

# Increases the state sales tax by 1 percentage point.

# Raises the fee for licensing vehicles to 1.15 percent of market value, up from the current 0.65 percent.

# Adds a 12-cent gasoline tax.

# Imposes a one-time, 5 percent surcharge on people who owe personal income tax at the end of 2009 to generate $3.2 billion. If the state receives more than $9.1 billion from the federal stimulus bill, the surcharge will be reduced to 2.5 percent.

# Reduces the amount taxpayers can claim on dependent care credit to the federal level of $100 instead of $300.

Cuts

# Reduces education spending by $8.6 billion over two years.

# Imposes 10 percent cut to University of California and California State University systems.

# Continues furlough for 238,000 state workers, trims overtime pay and eliminates two paid state holidays.

# Cuts medical budget for the prison system by 10 percent.

# Eliminates annual cost-of-living increases for recipients of the state's welfare-to-work program.

# Eliminates cost-of-living increase for seniors and the disabled who are receiving Supplemental Security Income/State Supplementary Payment.

 

Yupper...few thoughts I've had for quite some time:

* You get what you vote for, good or bad.

* People oughta be required to vote(good luck getting that one implemented).

* If you don't vote, don't b!tch. If you b!tch, follow up on voting for someone who'll improve a situation.

* Elected officials reflect the attitudes/stupidity of the voters, even if we don't wanna admit it.

* Elected types are petrified of voters, cuz if the voters ever got it together, most of 'em would
be out the door. One way to prevent this is to perpetuate the 'Conservatives' vs. 'Liberals' B.S.
we constantly hear. Paving roads, schoolin' kids, providing services ain't philosophies, they're
tasks the state needs to do and -we- get to pay for.

Be interesting to see how this works out in Kawlifornia, as if things work out, I hope to start spending
significant amounts of time there. Lots to offer, if'n one has plenty of $$$ to work with.

 

Not trying to pick at a scab, but when will you guys in CA vote out knuckleheads like Pelosi and Waters (among others)? Seriously. They've gotta go. To be fair, there are plenty of politicians that need to go, but Congress' approval ratings are awful. Pelosi's been running the show for 2+ years. And, Waters is a disaster. Just asking.

That's not entirely true. The system is also designed to make sure that the intelligent and the effective are disenfranchised in order to maintain status quo for the idiots at all levels.

The problem is there isn't a politician out there who is willing to stand up and make a change. I would be very willing to run for office BUT I would never win as my first order of business and the ticket I would run on would be to shut off all public assistance the day I took office. Then triple the size of the police force. Now everyone you can get to work because there won't be any handouts, not one dime.

 

Change? I've heard that one before..........oh yeah, our new President said something like that.

All these Sacramento politician creeps need to be rounded up and put in a big fenced-in area like a Zoo. Then sell licenses ($1,000.00/license) for a special 2 day politician hunt. One per day, 2 in posession limit and just a stiff verbal warning in case you accidently went over the limit.

This would fix 2 things: Get the crap out of Sacramento, and from the sold out license revenues, balance the budget.

 

At least my State Senator Abel Maldonado tried to pass a bill that would keep any of them from getting paid or per diem once the budget was not done by July 1st. Right now they still have not agreed to anything and they still keep getting paid and more per diem for the 3 emergency sessions the the Govenator has called. They might get their act together faster if they were not getting any financial incentive and it started costing them out of their own pockets to keep on meeting.

I don't know if anyone else in other states are seeing them but California is running adds non stop in NY to entice people to move their California.

 

Yup, we've got them here in Philly too.

California has lost me. I'm in the process of moving to Colorado. California is hopeless.

 

The easy solution, you pay for what you want/need and if you can't afford the full price then you just don't get what you want/need.

California's only problem, too many people it really is that simple.

 

While I empathize and agree 100% I'm afraid its too little too late at this point.

 

Well the problem you have now is the money has already been spent or promised in one way or another (bonds, union contracts, etc). I once heard that if the state layed off every single state worker they would still not come up with 40B. So the only solution you are left with is to borrow and/or raise taxes. Which of course makes the problem worse.
