I placed an order for one and had a 430 spider. I just like to hear the engine and open means more sound. I also wanted a little more of the race car feel. I too ride a motorcycle and being out on the track in a convertible is a lot safer than a bike. I also wanted something a little more rare. That's not to say it is collectible. It is just nice to pull up and have the only one around. I customize my motorcycles and in a way this is the same deal. If you want to do a lot of track time get a track race car period. I don't want a single purpose car that I will use 4 times a year and the rest of the time it is sitting.

What Ferrari REALLY should have done is made an open-top car thats stronger AND lighter than the coupes.

The problem with convertibles is that, without a roof, the floor is quite thin and long and in effect the front and back halves of the car are seperate vehicles attached by a spring.

The typical solution is massive bracing, which is never enough to restore the original stability, and yet adds huge weight.

The REAL solution is to make the seating section like a bathtub, with the sills coming up to the mid-line of the door, and the door in effect only being the "top half" of the current door.

This would actually be, for a given amount of structural material, far STRONGER than the coupe. In practice, you'd settle for LESS material (eg, lighter) while still being SOMEWHAT stronger.

The downside of course is that you couldn't get in and out with the roof up. Who cares? Make the interior waterproof and put in a drain-hole. The car honestly probably would never see the rain anyway, but you could leave a (manual) roof in place to at least allow the option to drive it in the rain should it be absolutely necessary.

The result would be a car that would actually be better than the Scud both on the racetrack and on a sunday drive, but that you'd probably not ever take out in rain or in a trip with a lot of ingress/egress.

Nah, in every way it differs from the Spider I like the Spider better: better nostrils, better tail, better wheels and interior, no stupid badges.

I don't think my opinion's shaped by the fact I just got a Spider

I do wish I could get the 16M engine and suspension tweaks on my Spider.

Great car, but someone brought to my attention today in the Aussie section the quality of the rear 16M badge. :):)

Does it look like the black paint inside the letters is peeling off?? Or just not there??:eek:

Thats a pretty hefty price tag, not sure what it will cost in Hk but cant see it costing any more than 4.5M.

I prefer the black stripe on the red car compared to the red white and green stripe seen on this car. The 16M badge on the interior would have been sufficient compared to the 3 of dubious quality pasted on the exterior. As someone else said less is more...

I am torn on this one. I ordered the tri-colore on Rosso Corsa but after I saw the pictures of the black stripe started to think. Too late for me as production of my car is well advanced

Maybe. But it is easy to say the something about the 288 GTO and those dinky little badges look pretty darn sweet 20 years later.

In any event the badges on the 16M are not what the car is about, the electronics and the driving experience will overwhelm the decorations :):):)
