    They're there for aerodynamic purposes.

So what possibley can they be for then? If the engineers say they're not for aerodynamic purposes.... then what do they say they are for?

They say it;s for brake cooling, but i think they're actually there to help aid the air around the wheels, hence the aero excuse.

But i think FIA should ban it all together, as i missed the days of glowing brakes...

I thought it was for better brake cooling. The boundary layer it better to draw out hot air from the brakes? Also I would suspect an aerodynamic improvement as well as the air could be smoother around the tire and after the tire.

I think most of the brake cooling comes from the from ducts.

Yes and yes, they are an aero aid and for brake tempreture. They smooth air flow across the wheel and once brake temp is up to working temp they "vent" air drawn in via the Ducts. I possess one BBS Porsche 962 wheel cover from LeMans
Remy I miss glowing discs too, sparks and exhaust flames as well
