Looks Great!!! Did you sell your wife and kids to pay for the repairs!!! (Always Keep the Dog)!! Would you do this project again if you new how much money and work would go into it? loved watching your project come together.. Thanks!!
This is my favorite thread!!!!! Well, besides the bikini and rear ends thread over in the off topic area.
It's coming along nicely. Where they able to take out the windscreen, rear window, and rear quarter windows without breaking them? If so how did they get them out in one piece? Curious because I eventually will need to get my car repainted.
Very good question!! Would i do it again, yes i think i would, i wanted 348TB and the ones i looked at all had issues so that is what i brought this car, got to say i knew the car needed some work doing to it that is why it was cheap, but i did not know it needed so much. It has snow balled as i am trying to make the car as fresh looking as possible, and this is what is costing the ££ all those little parts from Ferrari all mount up!. I have kept a spread sheet of the cost so far and as of today inc buying the car it stands me £51K this includes the agreed cost of the body work. Now some may say that a hell of lot of money to spend on a 348 but a fair few ££ is in parts like wheels, tyres, Tubi, leather retrim, carbon part, Hill Eng wheel bolts, peddles ETC also i dont sell my cars so this is a keeper for me. I also have another one of my cars going though the same process, but unlike the Ferrari i did use the car for around 5 years before i took it of the road, the Ferrari i have only driven it 100 miles back home from the place i brought it from!! Here is a few photo of my other project car Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The front screen they got out in 1 piece and so the rear quarters, the rear screen / window was foggy IE it has white marks due to De-lamination, i did try to remove that one myself but it broke, but i was replacing it anyway, this is the problem with a restoration job like this where do you stop ! The new front and rear screens cost me over £2,400 with all the trims, the front screen is ok but does have a few small scratches in there so i will keep this as a spare. I have today ordered new door glass again the make it look NEW the only glass i will reuse is the rear quarter ones. I dont envey the guy who has to fit the screens back in though especially the rear one it looks a *****!!
Thanks for the reply.. Is the 348 Done?? Can you send pics of it done?? Maybe you should just invest in a body shop with all these projects you have going...
No the 348 is not done yet still at the body shop, wont go into on here but i have waited a long time ! but i think the end is near now. Still got to build it all up, plan was to put it all back together and drive it until winter time then have the engine out, but i think i will take the engine out as soon as i get it back from the shop. Again thank you all who have posted your comments keep me going
Keep ALL the old glass Paul. Well except for the busted rear one of course, but keep the old glass. You never know when you'll need new glass, and what it'll cost in the future.
Well got the car back from the body shop beginning of July this year! Cannot go into much detail on here but it off in the next few weeks to another body shop, in the meantime i have removed the engine to do the belts and get the sub frame shot blasted repaired and powder coated. I have also fitted a new set of Recaro Sport seats,to get them to fit i have had to move the hand brake over 1 inch and weld into the floor pan new fixing point ! but the comfort and the looks will be worth it. Here are the photos of me removing the engine, as you can see nearly 2 years in a body shop makes the engine quite dirty. Thanks for the update! The body looks great... can't wait until the next set of photos... Mike in Kuwait
Just started to do a major service on my engine and I am going to repaint the inlet manifold I have taken it apart and found the inlet on 1-4 is very very black and oily compared to the 5-8 side ? As you can see by the photos it looks very dirty, what could have coursed this to happen? I was thinking blocked breather or maybe someone In the past has over filled it with oil ? Having only every driven the car 120 mile I just dont know. It seemed to drive a run ok with no smoke. What do you guys think? Great thread and I highly applaud you! Thanks for bringing back a dime in the rough and a masterpiece back into life. Great pictures and one hell of a project!!!
UPDATE Found the problem why 1 of the inlet manifolds were black and oily, BROKEN valve spring in no2 cylinder inlet side. It was the inner valve spring that had broken and by the looks of it had been broken for some time. It has worn away the top of the valve guild, strange thing is there was no misfire from the engine at all but that cylinder only had 50psi on it ? As you can see by the photos i made up a tool to press the old valve guide out, you can also you can see in the photos the worn head of the guide. All the valves and seats are in very good condition but there is some witness marks on the pistons where the inlet valve at some point have kissed the pistons, these marks are very very small, i have no idea why this would be ? i will put the photos of the pistons up in my next update. I plan to buy and fit a new guide and re-cut all 16 valve seats, but not sure what to do about all 32 valves springs! (16 inners and 16 ousters) do i just replace the ones that have gone?
