This is what happens when you start to read Ernie´s booklets.

With the support from Ernie and Lars.......the actual working hours was reduced to a minimum.

Guess I spent five hours in total to get the thing out.

Now, I am only waiting for Lars to make an appointment with his mech and the he can check it out for me.

Guess another ten years "worrying free" would be the result of this minor surgery.

Thanks to the lift I never had to take the muffler and the bumper off.

However, I should have taken the cats off before.

As you can see they are off now, and that is just because it will be easier to get it back in.

Ernie, if you read this, I will try to take some photos during th "back in " process and then maybe you can add some of the photos to your "write up" ??

    Thanks again guys......

    Bengt,

Nice job on the removal. Did you have a gearbox failier or is this preventative maintenance?

    Thanks.

No, nothing wrong so far, but after reading Lars and others problems I thought I might just check it out. Better safe than sound as sailors put it.

Actually, this is also a check of how much the lift I installed helps out when it comes to these sorts of work.

Next winter it is graduation time because then I will go for an engine out service.........not by my own of course. I will surely need lots of advice from the brotherhood but I am confident I´ll fix it.

Have to drive some 175 miles to come to Lars´ mech but I think it is worth every penny knowing I do not have to think about the gear box for another 10 years or so.

    All the best,

This is such a wise thing to do - my gearbox is fine as well but as soon as I get the time I am going to pop those covers, check and tighten those ring nuts. I will probably buy new ring nuts so I can get a fresh stake on them. Anyone with a 348 should be doing this - Ernie's/FBB's gearbox experience sure has helped us all. Good luck with everything.

Hey Ernie how much torque should those ring nuts get? Red loctite?

    Red Loctite 271.

I don't remember off hand the torque specs, but we put the ring nuts back on pretty tight.

Don't forget to soak those ring nuts in red wine to get the oil off in preperation for loctite then drink the wine and forget about the loctite and just assemble it like they did at the factory :)
