Wanted to know if anyone from Vegas has run through Lake Mead lately. According to some other sources there is construction going on in the park. Does anyone know exactly what areas are affected? How far in past the entrance at Lake Las Vegas is the construction? Or is it closer to the Valley of Fire side? Or is it in multiple locations? Any input would be helpful. Thanks!

Sorry, I know nothing about this..

My Dad lived in Henderson, and took us there, I loved that area though.

    Hey Jeffrey,
I suggest you PM Reg. I know he went with a group out there not too long ago. I wish I could be of help, but I haven't been on that route for quite a while.

The construction around Lake Mead was finished in 07. I don't know of any new construction around the lake itself. Hoover Dam is undergoing a MAJOR freeway bypass construction and has been since 04 like Rodriguez said. It's quite the sight. I wish I had my camera out last time we went through there, they had the bridge about 1/4 of the way on either side. Stunning.

Yes there is construction in the park..:( The first spot is just before the turn to Echo bay about 17 miles in. If you go past the turn (we didn't dirt roads we were told by person at gate) it's in 2 more places both about 5 miles each and a total of 20 mile under construction...:( The good news is there is a turn off with parking just before the 1st construction zone so there is some good driving, but I don't think you would want to try the Valley of Fire.

Sorry to revive an old topic, but I am heading out to Vegas in 10 days and was hoping to make this drive. Thanks for the information and link related to the construction!

I was hoping to go through the Valley of Fire, any good other drives you would suggest?

You could go up to Mt. Charleston, eat at the lodge and then take the road over to Lee canyon. It's a great drive..:)

I visited the Hoover Dam for the first time in January and I was so fascinated and blown away by the construction of the bridge that I didn't even pay any attention to the Dam itself. It is indeed quite the sight and I wish I had pictures to share with you guys.
