It wasn't at the time either. It was frick'n miracle! I wonder if the new owner has shot himself yet? Bob S.
While that was a record price for an Islero, the hammer price was in the 180s, previous to that a number of driver Isleros of similar or lesser quality did sell for in the 150k range. Joe
Olivier, You need to read more carefully. I suggested that an ENGINE rebuild is about $20K to $30K. I agree a complete bare-metal restoration could easily reach $100K. I am very fond of the Islero and think every one should be salvaged. I regret the economic collapse has decreased the value of these cars. All the Islero people, Daytona people, Dino people, etc. still want to believe their cars are worth whatever, but to sell an expensive toy in this economic climate will give everyone a reality check. Back of the napkin calculation: Let's say the Ebay guy gets the suggested $40K for for #6129. To get it functional and presentable (a driver) with engine work at $25K, fix the bent hood and touch-up the body for $20K, repair the interior for $5K, find the unobtanium missing parts $3K, new exhaust system, shocks, suspension work $10K, and let's drag it to New York where you live to orchestrate this yourself (you're an Islero expert) $3K. That's about $106K for a driver. Is it worth $106K in today's market? Could you turn around and sell it for $106K? Not in the United States. That Padova car is looking pretty good. Last October was still the economic good-old-days. Just wait and see.
Ya know, sometimes you spend stupid money on a car for your own reasons (sentimentality, your dad owned it, etc.). There are no miracles, but there is miraculous stupidity. I hope the Ebay guy gets $60K for #6129 to make the Islero thread's day. While I'm yacking, why hasn't that gold Islero S sold at Lambo Porrentruy, en Suisse? It's been sitting on their lot for a very long time.
Like you, I'm regretting the economic collapse. But does it decrease the value of these cars to give everyone a reality check ? I'm not quiet sure ! All depends if you are in the need of cash to raise money quickly or if you just offer it for sale and are expecting it's real value. Gsstad auction in last December had many vacant seats, people didn't make the trip and Paris-Retromobile auction did sell for close to 11.500.000 uro... So that means there still good buyer to spent high amount, all depends of the offer... always the same "sing"...offer/demand !
Perceived values are contrived given economic contingencies. If you need to sell you will usually get a reality check whether you like it or not. If you don't need to sell you can pretend your car is worth 250K. I see the same wishful thinking in other Ferrari threads. But amongst all those empty seats at an auction all you need is one crazy guy with too much money who wants exactly what you're offering.
+1 Values dropped like a rock the last time around (1989-1990) with far less of an economic downturn than this one. So what's different now? Bob S.
Hi everyone, I missed an Islero press release from the 1969 Geneva salon on eBay. However, the seller was kind enough to make me a copy of it. Some interesting stuff to read: - A large tyre option was planned GR70VR15 instead of 205VR15. Never heard of it before. - It is clearly mentionned that the switch from the older suspension type to the Espada type was made for rationalizing purposes. As always...still optimistic figures...260 km/h...for what the dreams are for in a period when speed limits didn't exist...
Optimism appears common with these lovely cars. The Islero concerned was a no sale at over $43K. He should re-list it again when the economy is better next month.
I've discovered the reason why so many journalists & Lambo authors always wrote that "Islero was in the shade of Espada".... if you pay attention to the Espada stand compared to Islero stand, then you will notice it was upper...by at least 30 cm higher...that's enough to make shade over Islero... On Ebay, yes I'm probably, but at last minute someone else outbid me too...just have the time to save it ! BTW, I've some pictures, as you ??? we can exchange off L-Chat ?
Talking of Islero pictures here are my favorite ones, all in one album: http://gallery.me.com/zerog_samples#100133
This is supposed to be my car (6036), so I was reasonably keen to get hold of them. I have got thousands of contemporary pictures of my car (you just can't get enough!) but the odd one or two of 1960/70 shots of other Islero's that I bought from the Rive Le Box Collection that's been popping up on Ebay. Quite nice one of a couple of Islero's in the servicing department at the factory in the early 70s but I have no idea how to post on here.
Mr. McF... I will be happy to meet you, as I own #6009 the 2nd oldest Islero known to still exist. In fact we are not too far away, just the Channel to cross...Belgium >< UK. About your pictures, just scan them to share with us...I hold my breath with what you may show us. You can post me PM if you want. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice. I owned 3 of the cars in that album. The red one on page 1 (6531), the green one on several pages (6643) and the yellow one on page 3 (6198).
I don't currently own one, but hopefully will again soon. Prices are still a bit high on Isleros. They are more that Countachs, which to me is crazy. I'm waiting for things to stabalize and return to proper pecking order: Miura > Countach > Islero. I do wish I'd held onto the green one. I just love that color combination, though it was not in that shape when I owned it. The current owner did a great job restoring it.
Let me have a go next week - I am a bit of a ludite when it comes to technology. I have a really nice ealy 70s picture of an Islero GTS leaving the factory on a transporter as well which I will attempt to send you. Are you near Mechelen or Leuven as I am quite often there on business?
For all you Islero S owners: I just found a PDF of the Owners Manual online! Amazing. http://www.huskyclub.com/IsleroSDriversManual0001.pdf
Hi Olivier, Just saw that 6009 has currently round side markers, whereas it had tear drop shaped markers on the Sport Auto and Le Mans pictures. They must have been changed someday, maybe during the silver repaint? By the way, I was very pleased to see a small article about 6009 in the last Classic and Sports Car issue! Very nice! Best regards, Ed.
