The Cannonball Run Countach has found a new home! After some negotiations, I purchased the car from Ron, and it is now in my garage next to the Dumb & Dumber Diablo! I picked up the Countach today, and after battling some incredible traffic around the Daytona Bike Week, we finally got some open road on I4 and had a great drive back to Orlando! Ron is a really nice guy, excellent to deal with, and wow, does he have some great stories! I was a teenager when Cannonball Run was released, and I was mesmerized by that car. I don't know how many times I saw the film, but it was a lot. That car started my whole love affair with exotic cars. Soon after the movie came out, my parents bought me a model of the car for Christmas. Fortunately, Dad always videotaped Christmas mornings back then, and at one point on this old video, I hold the model car up to the camera and say "Someday I am going to have this car." That was about 25 years ago. Of course, at that point I may have well been saying that someday I would live on Mars. But I could dream! Fast forward to 2008, and through a mutual friend I get in touch with Ron and ask him to bring the car to our annual Celebration Exotic Car Festival last April. While Ron rarely ever did this type of thing, he agreed to bring the car, because our event is a charity to benefit Make-A-Wish. When the car showed up the morning of the show, I was just plain star struck. Sure, she needs some restoration. But still, just to see this icon, was awesome to me. Ron and I spoke several times about the car over the past year, and as of 10:30am today, she was mine! Getting in the car and driving it home was surreal. I still haven't quite wrapped my head around it. The car will be detailed in time for this years Celebration Exotic Car Festival on April 18, but afterwards it is my intention to fully restore her, including change the interior back to the original tan. I will keep it exactly as it was in the film- 12 exhaust tips and all. Just wanted to share the story! More pix to follow, but here she is with the Dumb & Dumber car: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Many congratulations on your purchase. Two movie stars in one house! Also, great to hear that a TRUE enthusiast got the car. The Christmas story was priceless
That's probably the best story I've ever heard. Congratulations. You own to great cars. Keep'em forever.
It was fun when I had the Dumb and Dumber car...always smile now when I see the movie...knowing I drove it and owned it Really COOL.. Then after some arm twisting I sold to the current owner..GLAD to see it in good Company! Enjoy and again thaks for your business.
Congrats! What a great story. Kinda similar to mine. As you know I also considered the car and came to see it at the RM Auction warehouse. Glad it's going to a good home. Gene.
You made me watch this for the 1000th time : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPJMpy4XISA (as we can see this video was uploaded by an F-chatter btw) ...So... when are you getting Batman's Murcielago or even better : Italian Job's Miura ?
I think it would be safe to assume that every one on this site wants to know one thing. How does this car sound? A full throttle does it make the same sound as what we heard on the sound track in the movie through it's 12 exhaust trumpets?
I bow in your direction. You are the true definition of a ROCKSTAR! Much as you...that car MADE me a car kid that grew up (some might argue that) to be a car guy. Quite simply...that is the most famous exotic car of all time. (in my mind). Thumbs up!!! --Tony
congratz, great story! Countach's are really amazing cars and having one of, if not, the most famous of them all is SWEET!
Amazing story! The Film is realy a Cult Movie, even here in Sweden! The Car is just such an Iconic Movie Car! Regards from Patrik
AWESOME story! What an inspiration! I remember nearly ruining my folks' humongous Sony Betamax because I would rewind that Cannonball Run intro over, and over, and over, and...well you get the drift. Does anyone know what happened to the car from Cannonball II?
congrats and great story!! hopefully it goes the same way for me haha..that is my favorite countach of all time..stunning!!
Fantastic news Jeff! im really stoked for you, and so thrilled it has gone to the right type of owner someone who cares for and respects the cars place in Lamborghini / movie history. I cant make it to Celebration this year sadly, but next time im over i hope you will let me see the old Girl!! Regards Alan W
Dear Lamborghinisti, Congrats ! This is really really cool. I'm sure the car has aged better than the two (formerly) hot chicks driving the Countach. The movie, when it came out was a little before my time...so it's not an early memory for me. ....but the intro is still wicked today! Shamile Freeze...Miami Vice !
Can I add your place to "places to visit when in USA" Congrats!! You need to keep a red spray can in the car too
