It looks like the "hubcaps" --the wheel covers -- now extend past the front of the wheel

Don't understand the absence of a floor. Any diagrams out there?

The car looks nice--McL has always done a good job dressing the car.

They had those on at some points during the day when i saw them testing at Silverstone last year so maybe they are for testing only.

Strange, Korr seems to think they were 'stolen' from Ferrari ;). I've never seen a Ferrari with anything like that on it.

It's the new A/C for the Formula 1 cars. Air goes into the scoopes, gets supercharged from the spinning wheels, which are designed to charge the air in a super way. Then it gets funneled to the driver via a process used in the Willy Wonka movies... I think they called it Wonka Vision. Yes, millions of tiny little particles floating above your head going to cool the driver.

Damn, does that mean McLaren is cheating off of Wonka's factory? There goes another 100 million.

Edit: Wait, maybe Ferrari designed Wonka Vision.

Ferrai was using wheel covers simular to these last year. Except that the McLaren has a larger intake.

That is not the new car. That is last year's car.

Just saw that you took the picture last year, not in this year's testing. I should read better before posting.

To answer the other issue, it must be an airflow issue.

Everyone was using wheel covers like that last year. The ones on the McLaren in the photograph on this thread are a completely different design.

The only thing that matters is that Kimi is happy with this year's car...

Well it bodes well for me new car design, at least 4/5 drivers capable of winning the WDC, and who knows there could be some unexpected GP winners..;)

Steve, I think there is the potential for this season to be the most competitive for some time - or is that just wishful thinking? It will certainly be a great disappointment to me, and I'm sure to many others, if it turns out to be the same old two horse race this year.

With not much testing being allowed, I think it is going to take some time to work out the new aerodynamics, making at least the beginning of this season more interesting than the last few years..

However, if kimi's happy with the car I think he'll wrap up the WDC sooner than the last race....unless of course the FIA has anything to say about it. ;)

I agree that this year looks to be oncourse for the most competitive season in years and I also agree that it will be very disappointing if it turn's into just another two horse race yet I'm thinking positive, beer half full and not half empty!

$100M fine says Mclaren used the data. Contradict the FIA. Go for it. Offer proof.

IanMac is a moron, pure simple. Ferrari invented the tech and other teams copied them...not a big deal, but McLaren had the inside info (worth tens of millions of dev money trying to figure out what) on how it worked. Ferrari were the very first to deploy the tire/brake cooling system that used Co2 gas to xfer heat to the hub...NO ONE HAD THIS BEFORE FERRARI...NOT EVEN CLOSE.

But I digress. $100m buys not only the best stolen Ferrari technology but also a WDC to boot. McLaren probably made out on the deal.

The FIA didn't prove that McLaren had used the data and no one except those directly involved can say for certain one way or the other. A relevant quote:

'McLaren argued that any information received was not used and did not enhance their car, but the FIA countered they were "entitled to treat possession of another team's information as an offence meriting a penalty on its own if it so chooses".'

Ha Ha The FIA don't make me puke, believe them all you want..your more gulliable than I thought, try use google it's your friend.
So to set this straight what your infer is that Mclaren are the only ones that cheat, so therefore they should have been banned for life.
Well if you can give that FACT concrete proof,or your that good of a detective, let's see if you can detect some nice biscuits to go with my coffee. I won't be expecting any!!..
