How much quicker do you want to go? Buy a Nissan GT-R or the newest Corvette and save some money. While world class performance is expected, a Ferrari must be drop dead gorgeous and feel like money when you drive it. Unless Ferrari builds better looking cars than the 599, they will just be in a pissing contest with lesser car companies. I don't care how fast they are, a Corvette or Nissan can not be compared to a proper Ferrari. Ask most Ferrari owners if they wouldn't sacrifice half a second zero to sixty times and five mph top speed in exchange for a less efficient but beautiful body. And don't get me started on how civilized the new cars feel. You want civilized, buy a Benz. When Ferrari builds a beautiful, sexy, beast of a car watch the lines form. I am hoping for the best with the 430 replacement but I'm keeping my Daytona anyway.

Whats that saying Enzo wanted them to do when you pressed down on the throttle?
A squeal and a fart isn't quite what he wanted.
Guess the 355 would be a failure by Enzo's maxim.

Not that it matters but to set the record straight she first started to squirm then let loose a big fart then yelled I had only made it to 6k rpm at the most in 2nd, that's when the fun starts and the tires start spinning then sideways to 8500rpm, I didn't want her to freak out the night was young I am sure if I redlined it she would have filled her panties then I would have had to take her home cause I am such a nice guy, but I am sure my seat damage would have been my biggest concern if it happened in hindsight.

Good thing you were not in the boxer. However, the smell of gas may have been able to overwhelm the other smell.

You are a crazy guy jeff!

    Cheers,

I think it is a good move on Ferraris part. The point of the car is to be the most fun it can be. Making it marginally faster does not do it. A better feel and an immersive experience are what the company should go for. I can say the most fun car I have ever driven is a very lightweight low horsepower car.
If you just want a faster car there are lots of them out there for much less money.

500 hp cars loaded with electronic traction control devices, that make going 150mph seem tame, and uneventful...are just no fun to drive on public roads.

Ferrari doesn't need 600hp, (and a car that looks like a blob, thanks to wind tunnel design) they need a car that makes driving "feel" fun again :)

Light weight....would be the new direction, since all other car companies keep going bigger, fatter, heavier... more speed needs to be replaced by "more feel" and more art

One thing I think they should do is work on the steering feel of some of their cars. The 612 and the 599 have too much steering boast on them IMHO. The 430, on the other hand, is just right. My guess is the California will come in closer to the 599 than the 430 but I will have to wait to see.

I wonder if the California is not already a step in this direction. Power top + interior luxury rather than ultimate speed.

If so, then I hope that they move on to make the 450 PRETTY and try to shed some weight.

Just to confirm this weigh loss direction and why its a good thing.

How many of you know the difference in performance between the 360 and F430 Challenges?

Expect the F430 Challenge with its 83bhp extra to trounce the 360 Challenge in a drag race?

    360 Challenge F430 Challenge
    Engine: V8 / 3586cc V8 / 4308cc
    Power: 400BHP 483BHP
    0-62MPH: 4.0 secs 4.0 secs
    0-400Mtrs: 12.0 secs 12.0 secs
    0-1000Mtrs: 21.65 secs 22.0 secs

The F430 Challenge weights a bit more than the 360 Challenge hence performance is so similar.
Handling and aerodynamics where improved on the F430 and they are the big improvements.

The extra power cannot be put down on the road without trick electronics!

Reminds me of the 1st Miatas that tried to clone the MG experience

so now F will concentrate on mufflers and interiors ?

They did a pretty good job, didn't they? Mazda revived the whole roadster segment with that car. I drive a 1st gen Miata nearly daily and is a LOT of fun to drive.

Mazda did more than a pretty good job. They basically got interest going again in a car segment that had been dead for 15 years or more.
The NA Miata is still a better driving experience than most new sports cars today.

I believe Felisa is stating the obvious, Ferrari can't continue to up the stakes in performance because large scale manufacturers can outpoint whatever they build, data wise. However, it is difficult to hear the words uttered as an admission the brand will no longer push the envelope or define cutting edge. The future is resigned to focus group styling and accompanying tactile improvements, along with a certain loss of credibility. Predicted result; sadly, an increase in sales.

Like the credit bubble, it must grow larger and larger until it collapses. Nothing Ferrari does will detract from more HP faster cars until the end. If they try to stop by the sidelines, they will have fewer sales. Buy a 460 hp Ferrari or a 600 HP whatever? Guess.

In the past these sorts of performance races ended and this one will but not by any participant rejecting the game. If F tries they will be sorry and lose mindshare.

I think this is a great idea, shed weight, increased feel and driver control, better sound, how could anyone not like this. When I am in the 365 GTC/4 people can hear it long before I go screaming by, even at low speeds, a carb Ferrari V12 is a wonderful thing, but I am not expecting that sound to come about again. I do hope that this move is less California and more Scuderia. Lotus has banked with the no frills approach and I have to say every time I see one I think about buying one. I think Ferrari will continue to make the most amazing cars on the road and trust that they will continue to stay out in front.

If it's realistis this new way to build sport cars I think immediately on what i read on EVO, the FUN and PLEASURE
to drive are not only connected to the major power in the engine...
They have carried in the ECOTY a R26R to compete " only under the point of view of DRIVING fun" against
    "our" more favorite supercars.
I remeber also the ALAIN PROST has tested 8 supercars, last year for some some magazine ( Italian Quattroruote and
American ROAD & TRUCK - if I do n ot mistake- ) And He told that the PLEASURE TO DRIVE is given by the general equilibrium
of a car bettween all its components : Horse power, torque, brakes, Steering-wheel sensibility, stability, road-holding....
This does it mean that a car that has 1 or 2 features too stronger than the others maybe it will not offer the same
pleasure of driving than a car less powerfull but more equilibrated !!
I think that, now, MORE AND MORE people will look at this !
