Point well taken. Ok, i shall say that of the four CAGs i have met over the years not one was personable, all were very bity and two were downright nasty. Am glad to hear there are good CAGs out there.

Parrots need lots of attention. I have a conure & it is a hand full!

+1 My bird thinks it is a human. Showers, Pepsi (a few sips then I cut him off), Chinese carry out, car rides... you name it!
In my situation, I found that introducing one toy at a time was the only way to get him interested. He gravitates towards the intellectual toys, such as little shapes encased in a plastic tube. He has to operate a wheel to move the shapes.

I've met some nasty ones too so I understand your view point. Maybe I'm just lucky.
I have a Soloman Islands Eclectus female that is extremely territorial, crashes against the cage bars when I walk by at night. She is really nasty until I let her out and pet her for a while.

People only get birds that hate their friends.

Pepsi??? That can't be good for a bird. Does your bird burp afterward? Now that would be hilarious.

Very few birds are social with people they don't know, unless they spent their early months at a pet store where there are always a ton of people around them.

That would be a noble goal - to train a parrot to burp :D He only gets about a raindrop sized sip then I cut him off. I have to keep an eye on the little booger... actually I think I might rename him "booger" since he is green!

My macaw was hand raised and is a sweetheart so far, about 9 months old...

    rarely screams...

    Talks...

    Never bit anyone...

Get her out of the cage an hour or two a day and she is happy...

I think its key that foks outside the immediate family play with the bird, makes them more social...

She will hang from my hand with one claw, lay on her back, take showers with me, etc... tame as can be. Never screeches at night, and hardly ever during the day...

The key is to find a wonderful breeder, who hand fed the bird. On the flip side, I have two conures that weren't hand fed and they are the equivilant of wild parrots. They will come to me to eat, otherwise they prefer their own company... They love to get inthe macaws cage and steal her food...

We have a female red/blue solomon island eclectus.

She is quite the animal. She is bonded to me, but HATES my wife. She will climb off the cage, stalk my wife and attack her. When we put her in the cage, she yells. She growls when my wife walks near her. In general, she is not a friendly creature. Our 4 dogs give her wide berth.

She can say, "step up", "emma", "pepper, pepper" (2 of our dogs' names), she says "thanks for calling" (our friend taught her that b/c of his daughter had a toy that said it (an elmo toy), "silly bird", "owww"

She is happiest when she is on my shoulder.

For my wifes piece of mind, and safety, we are going to try and find her a new home.

Oh, she is VERY messy and my wife has determined, that whilst we are dog people, we are clearly not bird people.
