Sounds like shipping might cost more than the car.

Enclosed transport will run somewhere around $2,000. You should be able to find room on an open car carier for around $1,000.

Perhaps a train? Clear across Canada was about $1,400 plus tax.

Try Dependable Auto Shippers. 800-826-1083. For open carrier(and enclosed) they're pretty cheap as they ship a lot of cars to their terminals that are pretty much everywhere.

I had a horrible experience with "Dependable" Auto Shippers. I sold a BMW to someone in Ohio, they used DAS. It was supposed to take 10-14 days to get there. It took almost THREE MONTHS! During that time, DAS dodged calls, gave various lame excuses, refused to return calls, and were horrible.

They apparently are some kind of broker, they don't own the trucks or employ the drivers. They take cars and put them in various terminals, where they hold them until they can fill a complete truck. Apparently, if that means your car has to sit somewhere for 2 weeks while they fill the truck, then your car will sit 2 weeks.

I felt horrible for the guy, can you imagine being told 10-14 days, then a month passes. Then another MONTH. Then another MONTH! Thankfully, he found DAS himself, if I would have recommended them i would have felt terrible.

    Just our experience.

I have a similar story to for DAS, THEY SUCK. A few years ago I bought a Toyota Land Cruiser in Washington state while on vacation, it was a hell of a deal on a great truck, so I looked up shipping companies and found DAS, for $850 they agreed to ship the car on an open carrier to Orlando, Fl in 20 days. The truck arrived on time but it was covered in motor oil from a rust bucket pile of junk that was sitting just in front of it. I told the driver this was unacceptable, and that I expected their company to pay for cleaning the truck he said "oh ok, just write it in the complaint form and they will take care of it" So I did just that and immediately called DAS to let them know. They told me they would need the drivers report and would get back to me. In the mean time I had the car professionally detailed, I spent about $400 on it. 2 weeks had gone by and no response from DAS so I called, they claimed they had never heard of me and that they were not the company that shipped my car and I must be mistaken. I called American Express and retrieved the billing record to confirm they were the shipping company, then I called my lawyer and put her to the task. With a very nasty letter sent from my lawyer to DAS threatening a lawsuit, I felt better. We never heard anything back from them but when my next bill came from American Express I had a total refund of the shipping costs. In the end I guess I cant complain, the only thing it really cost me to have the car shipped was the detailing for about $400 and my lawyer only charged me an hour of her time, $285.

DO yourself a favor and stay away from these guys, check out Intercity Lines, I have had success with them before, not cheap but very professional.

    Call to a transport broket.
He might find an empty returning van and it could cost you a little less than 1000$.

OK, scratch that. Never used them but their prices sure looked attractive. I think they'll give you a free online quote so it's a good starting point. At least their good for something. ;)

I used http://www.horselesscarriage.com/ to ship my 348SS from CA to VA, and then again to ship a Jag we bought my mom from CA to MI. Both cars were on time and shipped without an issue. I will use them again the next time I ship.

Cross country for the Ferrari was about $2k (enclosed).

No connection to them, they are just highly recommended by me.

I did a lot of research when I had my Mondial shipped (it is currently in transit).

I found lots of good things about Intercity, FedEx/Passport and Horseless Carriage, and spoke with people who have used all of those three. Nothing but good things said about all of them.

I went with Intercity, because they had the quickest quoted pickup and delivery time. They and Passport were around the same cost. Horseless Carriage quoted me around 30% more.

So far, so good with Intercity. They picked up on the exact day they said they would, so that's a good start. We'll see!

Do not use VIP Transport under ANY circumstances: in the summer of 2007 I gave them my baby to transport from Ft Lauderdale to Los Angeles. They scratched the side of my car badly then never formally informed me, never apologized, never a word from the trucker or from the company owner! So considering their total lack of professionalism and rude behavior I witheld the 1800$ payment until they paid the body shop off the 5000$ insurance for the damage.

What did they do? They just paid the bodyshop 3200$, effectively mugging me for what I was going to pay them!

In 3 years working in a Classic Car dealership that was by far the worst behavior I saw from such companies.

There should be a better business bureau or regulatory oversight system for that trade.

I used McNutt - they were pretty good and were recommended to me by a car broker.

Note, they are open trailers like DAS, but I had no issues with them whatsoever.

Check earlier posts regarding transportation. Do not I repeat DO NOT use a broker, and do not use a forwarder they have no control over who is transporting your car. If you read my earlier post regarding transportation of a 1911 Buick you will see why to only use companies that own their trucks and hire their own drivers. Horseless Carriage Transport moves all Ferraris from the dock to their dealer network I reccomend them.

By the way one more confirmation on NOT using DAS. Long story but my M3 showed up at the drop off point with the coolant cap off and the hood was jammed closed on top of it and bending up on one side of the hood. I thought I was going to freaking kill someone. Don't ever ever ever use them. Horrible.

Intercity dropped my Mondial off today.

I have nothing but good things to say about Intercity. They picked the car up quickly and when they said they would (which was earlier than the other shippers, like Passport and Horseless Carriage, said they could).

Intercity's price was a little lower than Passport, and a lot lower than HC.

There was always someone to call at Intercity, they always answer their phone and know exactly where the car is. (I dealt with Jim, who was always excellent).

The only thing is they didn't deliver the car when they said they would . . . they did it two days EARLY!

They were professional and first class all the way.
