+1 My 02c. FWIW: - This car's been "under development" for almost a year - Under RB's "tutelage". [They "gave up" on the '08 campaign by, what, mid-season?] - F + M *had* to concentrate their (considerable) resources on '08. Gave Brawn a serious head start. And, remember, last year they didn't have *any* budget worries.... - They've got Mercedes power. [Reliable, known proven package.] - They've got 2 *really* experienced jockeys. - They're seriously motivated. Hopefully they're not running light...... Cheers, Ian
I would love to see Brawn do well. I don't think he received the recognition he deserver for Ferrari's success.
I wish him well also. He certainly rolled the dice the last few weeks by not going with Bernie's offer and put his own money where his mouth is. Such risk deserves a reward. Also think about the sweat Brawn is causing on the Haug & Co. when they have to explain to the Mercedes board why the McLaren isn't faster than the lousy garagistes B team.
I hope this display of pace is true. To, me they couldn't have been running light if they did complete race distances unless they re-fueled every 5 laps or so and everyone would have noticed. That said, there are no points for the winter championship and Ferrari and McLaren could be sandbagging. Wouldn't be the first time.
I don't think so. At least they can't have stopped the development completely, as they couldn't have kept their pace then.
I seem to remember Kubica being unhappy that development of last year's car had been stopped, or at least reduced, in favour of developing the 2009 car when he still, at least theoretically, could have won the WDC.
The neat little BGP 001 hides some unique features to its pace such as clever front suspension, a 'snow plough' bargeboard and complex diffuser, as well as the weight distribution advantage of not having KERS. Full thing here interesting .. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/73700
Just thinking about this apparent lack of KERS advantage, Max is not going to like non KERS car having a such an advantage, expect some vague FIA ruling anytime soon.. Because otherwise if the Brawn GP car is such a flyer with out KERS expect others to follow suit.
That's an interesting point. KERS is about generating a bit of extra speed for overtaking; have the KERS equipped cars been using KERS during testing? Have maximum speed figures from testing been published anywhere? Maybe the KERS cars have something in reserve.
There has to be more about their speed than just not installing KERS. Toyota have designed their whole car without KERS, if that was the main factor, they would have to be the fastest of the pack right now.
Especially the extra boost for overtaking may be an effect that doesn't show up in timetables, but when it comes to actual racing...
Well yes agreed, but it does appear to have a bearing on the pace, but not the main factor read the link I posted! ,However think about the advantage at the start, faster in into the first corner lighter better balance or can KERS be used at the start, ? as a booster ,can they charge it up in the pit's..before the race, I assume they won't allow charging whilst refueling big spark/fire hazard.
Could be a nice way of sandbagging a bit..Like what the hell where did he come...Oh it's my KERS button.. could be great.
Of course it has an effect on the pace - as a part of the whole package. If the car as a whole isn't good, using or not using KERS will not make it a winner. I doubt that the performance of the BGP can be pinned down to one single factor where they're better than everyone else. KERS can be used at the start IIRC.
Yes, the whole package is on song with the BGP by the looks. Ermm watch the clever ones without KERS get in the KERS car's slip stream... Imagine being a steward on that 1st corner with all them cars boosted up..
Steve-its all about the technology and engineering, every year the driver (sadly) counts less and less....
