Is there a common failure point on these radiator fans? The switch or the motors etc.? LH fan never seems to come on even when temp exceeds 190 which is the point the WSM says it should switch on.

Both can fail. Quick test, short the plug to the thermo-switch screwed into the radiator, that should cause the fan to come on if the ignition is "on". Of course this will require you to remove the left wheel and fender liner. If you need the fan, they are inexpensive here: http://www.the-fan-man.com/shop/size-pull-part-2049-p-219.html?osCsid=c5b9027f5137ba744d1d40e666124cd1

    Or here: http://www.srbymichael.com/manufacturers/spal/fans.shtml

The only difference is you will need to splice on the "ferrari specific" plug from your old fan to the new one.

Thermo-switch I believe you need to order from Ferrari (or Ricambi ;) ).

Make sure the return (bleed) hoses to the expansion tank aren't clogged and fill and bleed the cooling system properly before worrying about any thing else.

Check coolant level, then turn the heater on in your cockpit and bleed the radiators again. An air bubble can easily insulate the sensor, preventing an accurate turn-on, otherwise.

Check the fuse under passenger side foot rest. Mine did that about 4 years ago replaced fuse that was bad.... still working today with no problems

I only had 1 Ferrari tech. to tell me to check the fuse, all the rest wanted to change the fan motor @ $600.00 per side.

    parts changers don't ya hatem!

You don't say if the other fan comes on at all

This may be important in that it is rare for fan 2 to come on for temperature and you may be cross wired (usually left first)

The RH fan does come on but but I believe it is controlled by a temp sensor in the oil since it cools both oil and coolant radiators.

Edit: OK, it's not controlled by oil temp. According to the WSM the RH fan is controlled by the sensor/switch up on the water manifold. It turns it on at 95 degrees. Seems kind of low to me. I guess that's why the RH fan seems to run all the time.

I started looking for a coolant problem when I noticed coolant coming out of the overflow. The water temp showed near 200 degrees and the LH fan hadn't kicked on still. In fact I've never seen it on. Driving the car around with air going through the radiators it stays well below 190.

I jumped the sensor and the motor came on but no fan rotation. Pulled the fan off and the hub on the fan is shot, not to mention the motor doesnt really sound all that great either. Looks like a new fan is needed.

Trying to see if I can find as close to OEM as possible. It is a Spal fan. The part# I can read that is legible is VA18 AP6 and then becomes illegible after that. What did you order when you replaced yours from that website?

You might want to consider replacing both fans while you are at it...they do not seem to be the best quality.

Right now it sounds like it's working just fine so I will wait for now. I got the new one on the left side after soldering on the plug. It works and sounds great.
