Well I can only suggest that it is a logical design as it looks like a sword so maybe they tried it out for a while. I prefer the other design as this is a bit heavy.

    Very interesting.

Any time soon I will have some data about an ignition system especially develloped for classic V12 engines as used in Lamborghinis and Ferraris. Visitors of the Techno Classica in Germany can visit the stand of BAS Autoservice to find out more.

Sounds wery Interesting. The old systems on these Cars are wery difficult to set right!A electronic system works wonders, and spares the Engines, and the owners wallets!

Several people have already accomplished this in a variety of ways. If you're interested in keeping your distributor(s) but want it to behave more like a modern ignition system here's an article I posted over at the Yahoo based group VLG about my experiences. I based my conversion on the Pertronix ignition system and the Marelli Jaguar V12 cap & rotor. These are readily available components which are not "Lamborghini" priced. A competent home mechanic can accomplish this with the assistance of a shop that has a distributor machine for both an initial distributor(s) health check out and final calibration. It's not as intimidating a project as it may sound to some people. After all, I if can make it work ... If you're starting with a worn distributor(s) then it's more of a project and unless you select a distributor free solution it doesn't matter which system you use, you're going to have to get them mechanically healthy first.

When I did my project there weren't any self contained (all inside the dizzy) systems that allowed electronic programming of the advance curve. I have heard about such systems under development but I'm not aware of any currently available. That may change and it would be great to have as the mechanical advance mechanism is frequently worn out on these distributors.

A fully modern electronic system is also interesting controlled by the flywheel. The old Ignition systems is often set wrong on Lamborghinis and Ferraris and you need a Bosch bench to set the igition curve right. Many engines have been destroyed, and not working properly due to wrong igition curves, and people who think that they can fix these problems easily themselfs, ending up with a broken engine-or Pistons with nice holes in them../Patrik G

I agree Patrik. That's why you start by sending the distributor(s) out for a thorough examination on a Bosch or Sun distributor machine. No electronic kit will solve an issue of bad bearings. If the advance mechanism is worn and out of calibration then you need to have that fixed as well. But if the system provides it's own electronically generated advance curve then you can simply lock the mechanical advance mechanism in place and utilize the electronics for this function. I just haven't seen one of those as yet. Once the distributor is healthy then installing the points elimination system is not rocket science. But you need a shop to work in partnership with you because the final timing alignment bewteen the two sensors shouldbe done on one of those machines. Or ... buy your own used Sun machine. That's what a fellow Miura owner I know has done and he helped me out with this project.

The crank (actually it's off the accessory gear drive) sensor mounted direct ignition converstions are also available. There are commercial people who can assist you is that's what you want. It's not original looking but it's clearly technically superior. Depending upon the condition of your distributor(s) it's either a lot more expensive or maybe about the same price.

Thats right!I have access to a Bosch bench here!My shop has one.I will get the distributor back from the "Science Lab"soon! Its in good conditionBut you have to keep the weights in good order. The system you are installing seem to be more advanced, but also something that people should consider to install in old Lambos and Ferraris. Hi everyone,

Here is the 1968 Earls Court motor show press release from Lamborghini.
One can find some very interesting stuff about the VIP option for the Espada.
    Best regards,

I never realized the Espada cost a little more than the Miura. Look where those values are today!

Yes, those cheap pieces of **** (Miura & Islero) were simply no match for the mighty Espada! ;>))

    Times do change, no?

What's interesting is the mention of the VIP model in 1969. Were there any series I VIP models?

When was the first VIP produced?

I think more and more people are discovering the Espada.Even Younger People.I got a comment on my Espada -from a young man 21 years old on a Video on Youtube on My Espada. He just had bought his dreamcar.
A Lamborghini Espada Series II.I dont think all the Young People of the MTV generation are only interested in the new more outragous Lamborghinis like the Murcielago and Gallardo seen in all the Rap videos.

It seats myself, hubby and the two kids very well.

We displayed it on the weekend down at Docklands, Melbourne, Australia for the 2009 Lamborghini Extravaganza held by the Lamborghini Club of Australia.

Best of all - it's green - my favourite colour!

    Cheers
