Carrera GT price in 5 - 10 yrs.

Good friend of mine wants to buy a fun super car. She doesn't want a Ferrari and I don't like Lamborghinis so I told her not even consider. I thought about the Carrera GT.

Here is the thing. What will happen to the price of this car in the next 5 - 10 years? Up or down? Plus which color is holding its value best?

All oppinions please!

As far as color/resale value goes.....IMHO it is something like this......others will chime in I am sure and opinions vary.

1-Black
2-Yellow
3-Red
4-Silver
5-All other colors

Having the "Terracotta" leather interior is a big deduction regardless of exterior color.

In the future......who knows......assume it'll be down 50% in ten years and you'll be fine.

 

what a question really who knows for sure that we will still be around in 5-10 years.
if you can afford the price of admission and that's what you/she wants go for it......

There is one for sale at Prestige Imports in MD. Good Price. High miles if you consider 14k miles high.

Why is Terracotta a deduction? I thought it looked good.

 

Agreed. Terracotta & Ascot Brown are the best two colors, imo of course.

 

I think it looks good on some colors like black. I've seen it on some others like Guards Red and thought it was horrible.

 

I personally think white is one of the top 3 best colors for the CGT. Probably my #1 choice.

 

Black / Ascot is one my favorites......but then I might be a bit biased at the moment because it is for sale......

I saw the car at the Baltimore Auto Show and remember seeing a few scrapes on the front bumper. There was a thread about this car int he MAR section. Someone pointed out that this car may have been wrecked at some point.

Also I went back and looked at my pics of the car from the autoshow, the front bumper didn't seem to fit that well in some spots.

 

I'm rarely a fan of red cars, especially Porsches, but it is *THE* color for the CGT (IMO)...

As part of the "fun" your friend will have if s/he gets a CGT be sure to include (i) lots of laughs each time the ridiculously low front spoiler scrapes and rips on uneven pavement and driveways, (ii) the chuckles involved in trying to master the clutch which some people do quite well, while others bemoan forever, and (iii) the dizzying delights of sliding out of control unless one is really a good driver and can control the power, and (iv) the immense fun of packing one's luggage into a lunchbox size bag because there's almost no room to store anything on a trip longer than 100 miles. Buy, hey, its just fun to own a car that's so impractical that almost no one drives them except on special, short jaunts here and there. I fantasize about the CGT too but can't quite convince myself to live with the above.

 

How much is a new clutch on a CGT ? I read prices going from 30.000$ to 60.000 Euros...

 

I hope I never have to find out but I've heard around $25-30K.

 

Make sure she can handle the car. Any other car out there save a Viper will give you all kinds of electronic safety features which could mean the difference between a perfect drift around a corner and ending up as part of a tree.

 

Andrew, I have read on a porsche forum that an actual clutch job at a US dealer cost 17k.

No affiliation other than I store my CGT at Ruf Auto Centre where this one is for sale. I see it all the time and it's an immaculate car.

 

Full Service + Clutch was US$24K. Has been discussed before but again: The clutch is sensitive but not a problem if you use it with care. The guy who owned my car blew it within 10,000kms but the dealer services 2 others with 40,000km + and 0 problems.

The CGT can be a beauty or a beast and that's what I really enjoy about this car. It's probably the most straight forward sportscar out there. The only problem is: It's german, we tend to seek perfection and that makes us a little boring

I just looked at a CGT new clutch invoice from a Bay Area dealer and it was $12k. I wonder what the difference is between a $12k clutch and a $17k one? - Tim
