Can anyone recommend the ideal tire pressure on the 348? I checked the specs and the max is 51, and I currently have them at about 40PSI - is this too much? Is the pressure on the front 2 wheels be any different than the back 2 wheels (since they are different sizes and obviously hold different weights of the car)

thanks in advance for any input

There is a recommendation on the door jamb IIRC, but I think I have been happiest with about 32 psi in the Pirelli Pzero tires I am using. It is VERY important to have equal pressure in the tires as I find the car handles very differently when one is about 2 psi low...
    YMMV!

The factory recommendation for the original equipment tires is 2.4 bars in the front (35 psi) and 2.6 bars in the rear (38 psi). This reflects a balance between performance, comfort, noise, and durability. There could be advantages and disadvantages to be gained and lost by making adjustments in those figures.

I have a feeling that you found the figure of 51 psi on the sidewall of the tire, and that's a load rating, not a pressure recommendation. Not the same thing.

I use 31 (f) and 33 (r) for the road (Drop the rear down to 32.5 sometimes if it is going to be real bumpy. On the track, I increase this by about 2psi. AFAIK 40psi is too much - the car will be too sensitive to bumps and undulations.

Interestingly the factory recommended a different tire pressure for the Bridgestone RE71 tire and Pirelli P700 tire. So looks like with today's spec of tires, you need to try out different pressures and see what suits the driving conditions and road surfaces. I run a line of chalk on the outer and inner parts of the tires and see how much gets worn out after a spirited drive.

I run 32 rear and 30 fronts until I want to corner aggressively, then I drop the fronts to 26 to induce more understeer. Thanks, plugzit! I found at higher pressure the fronts would wash out (oversteer) in a hot corner. I cannot drive around town all day with the lower front pressure though. Tires are Pirellis on 355 wheels.

in the foc hillclimb series i use a higher front pressure than rear. usually tinker with about 34 front 31 rear. I have a smidge of toe out at front as well, gives me a better turn in. Wouldnt recomend it for the road, as when they get hot it throws it all out, but seems to work for me for what we do!

The 348's are VERY picky about tire pressure. I can tell in the first mile if it off by 2 psi

Thanks Miltonian - you are absolutely correct, I read the 51PSI on the sidewall - what was I thinking?!?! right now, while it is in storage, I have the wheels over inflated to 40 for the front and 45 for the back (as recommended by a Ferrari Tech). I will adjust the pressure when its time to turn her loose!

thanks again all, this forum is AWESOME (i am fairly new, but getting good at this).
