Former Ferrari team principal Jean Todt has now officially left the Italian car manufacturer, after resigning from all the positions he held with the company.

Todt had stepped down as CEO of Ferrari last year but remained with the company in various roles. However, at a meeting of the board on Tuesday, chairman Luca di Montezemolo said that Todt was leaving Ferrari entirely.

Di Montezemolo paid tributes to the efforts of Todt, who helped make the team a multiple championship-winner after originally joining it in 1993.

"Jean Todt has been one of the leading protagonists of the Ferrari story of the last 15 years," declared Montezemolo. "Skill and passion have always characterised his work and have won him my persona respect and affection, the one of the Company as a whole and of the Prancing Horse enthusiasts everywhere.

"I would like to wish him the very best for the future which I hope will prove extremely satisfying both personally and professionally.

"All of these years we've spent together - victories and tough times included - have forged a link between Jean Todt and Ferrari that will never be broken."

So, what's the chances of him popping up with his old mate Ross Brawn before the Melbourne GP?

    That would be awesome IMHO!

    Cheers,
    Ian

Sure seems like Todt has been forced to fade away. I forget what went down? He's probably waiting until the coast is clear to resurface.

I would not be surprised to see him involved with Brawn GP, unless he is so burned out on the sport and the auto industry that he just wants to sever all ties. Having Jean Todt on board would also open up the sponsorship and financing options available to the team as he would bring so much credibility.

This is a graceful exit for a man who ultimately betrayed Ferrari's trust in him. He should be very grateful.

There were some rumors circling around that Todt may have been pushed to step down due to some speculation that he may have been involved in some misdoings while at Ferrari. Again, only rumors.

People who wield unbridled power need to be very ethical and go out of their way to avoid the hint of impropriety.
His goals and aims started diverging from that of the Factory several years ago and the ultimate outcome is his complete ouster from Ferrari.
This is a man who was the CEO of all Ferrari, cars and F1 and who brought great success to the Brand. Why then would he be so publicly demoted initially and then cast aside with a cursory "We wish him well in whatever he does", which is generally code for escorting out with security close behind.

"old mate"? I'd say the chances are extremely unlikely. It's said that Jean stayed on as Team Principal for an extra year longer than he originally planned primarily so as to prevent Ross Brawn from becoming Principal. Brawn wanted a move up, did not want to continue as Technical Director for another year - Todt blocked him. Brawn chose to leave Ferrari and go fishing for a year rather than continue as Technical Director with Todt.

Then, when Brawn was inquiring about a return to Ferrari in a more senior role, Todt was being booted upstairs by Luca, but Todt still maneuvered to keep Brawn from returning as Team Principal. Sorry, Todt may have been extremely successful in his years as Ferrari, but he was also ruthless and political.
