How sad is that? 5400 mi 89 348?

    Saw it on ebay. 5400 mi 1989 348. Some guy only drove this car 270 miles a year. 22.5 miles a month. 5.275 miles a week. What's that? To starbuck's and back every Sunday? Did the motor ever get warm? Geez. How sad. I'd hate to see the carbon in that motor. Stay away from that car.

    sad that it never got driven, but I wouldn't necessarily stay away because of that. (although the minimum bid tells me that this guy wants too much for it :) )

    I don't understand this mentality. Even when new, a 348 wasn't all that expensive. Maybe
    a bit more than a top end Benz. My 328 has only 69K ('86) but I drive her every day that
    the sun shines for at least an hour. If I had bought her new, God knows how many miles
    would be on her. But 5K on an '89 isn't a death sentence - as long as it's been well
    maintained.

    Expensive is always a relative term. Back around Christmas I ended up helping my dad, a pilot, update the software in the gps and avionic systems in 2 of 3 of his planes. He had a few
    vintage" but random copies of "The Robb Report" sitting on a coffee table in the corner of the hanger. To be honest, these magazines dated from 1991 to 1993, but still... These mags listed a few "almost new" (six moths to two year old) 348 models between $92k and $110k. For me, even by today's standard, much less the standards from almost 20 years ago, this strikes me as expensive. Then again... full disclosure: I'm a major cheapskate!

    I agree Plugz, this thing is going to be a nightmare waiting to happen, unless the new owner uses it as garage art also.

    Buy a poster.

    Such a shame.

    Yes, the 348 was expensive. I think the original MSRP on the '89 cars was over $105K.

    The sad part is that the owner obviously treated this 348 as an investment, and basically lost a pile of money for all the self-deprivation.

    Bingo ! Bruce and James, it's one thing to go out to the garage at 2:00 am and just stare at your Ferrari ( we've all been there ) as an amazing piece of sculpture, it's quite another to treat it as a commodity for investment. Remember years ago when the speculators drove up the price of Daytona's to over a million bucks overnight and then lost their ass, doesn't break my heart. As Bruce always says 'Drive it like you stole it' good advice as always.:D

    When I had my 355 in for service, in the next bay was a 116 mile f40 that hadn't been started in 12 years.

    His biggest mistake of all is not LIVING life. It is too short to leave a Ferrari sitting in the garage. Enzo didn't build these cars to sit around. Saddle up and drive the thing. One doesn't have to drive it 1000 miles a week, but 5.344433 miles isn't even enough to give you the ----on that you get when you drive one of these cars.
