I think flying the fleet into the sun was a reasonable choice. I doubt if they had much fuel left, first of all (can you imagine the Tyllium guys staying on that ship?), and secondly, where would they go anyway? And after 4 years, who would want to get in a ship again?

It's the equivalent of burning your ships, which is not unknown throughout human history. Also, they tried it the other way on New Caprica, and that didn't work out so well...

 

i agree, but i cannot fathom having the freedom TO FLY IN SPACE, much less the atmosphere on a new planet, and travel and explore. only to decide to destroy everything and walk around, and use hand tools to build with and raise food.

not many people in todays society will survive long if they have to fend for their own food, and build their own shelter. i understand it was a long and hard journey, but i would at least think they could have kept the small ships running for defense, and exploration.

just my .02, i would fly the Vipers until they were dead out of fuel!

thanks, this was the only show i watched on tv. Heroes and Dexter is cool too, but i have to watch them online when i remember too!

It never said they didn't. Certainly they flew the Raptors until they were out of fuel, at least. Probably not the Vipers.
