No need Brian, Basically nothing has changed to the scoring system, as the FOTA rightly pointed out it's far to late in the day to start changing it, and now we are hopefully back on track to what I hope to be a exciting season...;)

This goes back to what I have been saying for a long time.

F1 needs stability of rules that cannot be swayed by the whim of simpletons and morons.

The current points system came about because Schumi and Ferrari dominated 2003(4)? to such a degree that the WDC was wrapped up in July. Bernie wanted a tighter race for the finish so he compressed the points give out. That worked for two years until Massa won more races but lost the WDC due to overall points in favor of Hami...now, Bernie wants to change it again.

FIA chumps...what F1 needs is rules stability. I've been saying this for a long time. From 2005-2009 we the fans and the teams have been presented with a fantastic amount of rule changes...tires, engines, qualifying...the gamut of changes is so off-the-cuff and stupefying for fans and teams alike that we are all left bereft and bewildered.

Major rule changes need to be projected 5 years in advance. This keeps teams from dumping $350M on wind tunnels that will be rendered useless year over year due to rules changes. Kinda sucks when you just dropped a quarter billion or more on a wind tunnel and can't use it like you wanted to. Kinda sucks also when you limit CFD after your company just built the most powerful computer in Europe...FOR TESTING F1 STUFF. Cosmic in my mind that the most powerful computer in Europe is made to test CFD of a car, not nuclear explosions (I exaggerate...a little).

And now there's talk of a spec KERS for 2010? Why not have a single company develop it for all teams like the ECU and save hundreds of millions of Euro in dev costs?

    Two words.

    Soylent Green.

This is all about the FIA vs FOTA. Fans, as usual, don't enter into the calculation.
BTW didn't someone say that it would never happen?;)

Exactly. Sounds as though Max is trying to pass the buck to Bernie, though. :)

Its a given that there is no honor among thieves.
The constructors (FOTA) are looking for a bigger piece of the pie and the FIA (read Bernie&Max) don't want to give it up so they're trying to disrupt things as much as they can.
IMHO the constructor's interests are probably closer to those of the fans.
P.S. Does anyone think that at the end of this season we'll care enough to figure who would have been champion under the aborted rules?

Thanks for the clarification Steve. I just hope they go for the 12-8, etc points format now.

It won't matter because Brawn will win the Championship and Bernie and Max will be scratching their heads on how to give Hamilton or Massa the title next year.

The points system has now gone back to the original 10,8,6,5,4,3,2,1 points system.

No prob's Brian, it's as Alex posted, the same 10,8,6,5,4,3,2,1.

If it's argued that it's too late to change the rules, it must remain the same, I assume.

Of course they are, but at the same time they'd prefer it never be mentioned again.

I'm thinking a bit further with this Dave, maybe Max was testing the strength of the FOTA unity knowing full this system would get knocked back, so now he will have to think carefully how to devise a way or scheme to divide and conquer again...

Or maybe I'am talking out my a$$...;)

This is just Bernie and Max testing FOTA. They knew damn well they couldn't make this rule change, but threw it up there anyway just to see how FOTA handled it. Now they have "deferred" it for a season and in a few months time, after FOTA writes a letter expressing why they unanimously don't want the "winner takes all" system, the FIA will announce the 12-9-7 revision, claiming it was a suggestion of "The Commercial Rights Holder"...

I don't think there's anything conspiratorial about it: They're just plain incompetent. Seriously, they look like morons for the whole "I heard the teams were okay with it" statements in the press now. With the howling from teams and fans alike, they're just showing how out of touch they are. The sport will be much, much healthier for their departure.

This is a great example of why there doesn't seem to be as much excitement about the season starting up again. Why be excited about the racing if the FIA is going to try and steal the spotlight.

The thing is a extra 2 point difference for a winner would have done the job, but Oh no we have to have all this mither.
Part and parcel of F1, I suppose.
