    Guys,

348 is in Maranello's having it's heart removed for cambelt replacement.

Previous owners have had the belts replaced in -situ - as such the black plastic timing belt covers are in a really bad way (the large Y shaped centre piece + 2 top caps)

No longer available from Ferrari and Eurospares in the UK have none either :-(

Has anyone got any of the three pieces lying about or know where i can find some

Any help would be really kindly appreciated

    Jason

Try these exotic breakers, there in the UK. http://www.douglasvalley.co.uk/
Question: How does doing a cam belt in situ exclusively cause damage to the covers, what did Maranello tell you. I have see quite a few 348 covers in a bad way even though the engine was removed. They can get damaged and perrish.

Tried them Zero - along with evey specialist in the UK

The damage to the covers - in my opinion - has been accentuated by not performing engine out servicing - just my opinion

My belt covers (the rear ones) were RS and manged to get them from Eurospares but they were ex factory took a few weeks. If not Ricambi or the others that advertise on F-Chat.

Like wise, my car had signs of having engine in cam belt change, the heat sheild between the tank and engine was also missing.

They had glued up the the broken covers with araldite (or similar) but did not stick luckily cought it before dropping in the belts and makin the engine into a hand grenade.

Would NOT recomend glue but if your get REALLY stuck may want to talk to a plastic bumper repair shop about plastic welding....?

Does anyone know if the earlier aluminum top caps will fit and line up ok with the large black plastic y shaped cover?

The problem is not the alignment, but the plastic. Once the black plastic becomes brittle, the slightest force, such as turning one of the connecting/locking screws, will shatter the plastic into shards that in my case blew my engine by wedging in and locking a cam pulley briefly.

Determined to not revisit that problem, I replaced all of the black plastic with aluminum covers, caps + y shaped cover, etc. Aluminum everywhere.

My own personal *opinion* is that if you have brittle black plastic from heat/cold cycles + age, that you would be better off going with all aluminum covers, or barring that, with NO COVERS AT ALL!

Yes, you should have covers over your cam belt, but the black plastic (once it has become brittle) is simply that dangerous to the health of your engine.

    That's my experience/opinion, anyway.

All of the above is a long way of saying "don't mix aluminum cap covers with brittle black plastic Y shaped covers."

I think you're correct. Maranello in the UK have said that the two top caps are in such a condition whereby it'd be better NOT to refit them at all

Will the aluminum top caps fit with the black plastic Y shaped mid cover?

Don't leave *any* of the black plastic on your car once it becomes brittle! Don't mix aluminum cap covers with the black plastic Y mid cover!
