Looks like its going to be a nice day. I'm thinking of making the trip. Anyone else going?
Captree was a little nippy this morning but there were probably close to 600 cars present. Spring is here!
Yeah it was a pretty nice turnout. You can tell everyone is excited for Spring. I will have to agree though, it was pretty cold due to the wind.
Yea, walking around was a little difficult w/o your ears being covered. Very nice turnout. We got there a little late and had to park all the way in the back (to the right as you enter), so we made our own exotic section.
Wow, hey its been going on for years now. Its every weekend, (sunday) that it is not snowing or raining or brutally cold. Starts very early.
Some people start to get there around 630am or so believe it or not. So there is a stream of people coming and going throughout the morning.
Captree Boat Basin is a New York State Park/ Boat Basin located on the extreme eastern end of Jones Beach Island. The island a barrier beach on the southshore of Long Island with 700 parking spots. For numerous years during the winter, early spring and late fall, Captree has been a gathering place for car enthusiasts. The opposite season, the gathering is several miles to the west at a smaller park called OBI for the former Oak Beach Inn. Sunday gathering is a non organized group of a mixture of American iron, European, Japanese and what ever of old, classic, antique, and modern and exotic motor vehicles. Basically, you name the vehicle; it probably has been there in the past. The group starts showing up generally at about 7AM with some diehards showing earlier. Captree, because of the huge parking area, timing is not all that important unless you want to show in the first lot. OBI is another matter. Generally by 8AM OBIs lot is full and the cops start chasing latecomers away. Sometimes after some of the early risers leave OBI, the cops sometimes open the park to latecomers.
