I did a search and did not find exactly what I was looking for. I'm considering getting another 246 Dino to drive, weekend car shows, etc. but also building some equity for the future. I found the thread about Dino prices falling but no definitive answers. Always loved my Dino and kick myself for ever selling it, of course when you buy for about 18K and sell for 29k you think you're making out like a bandit. We won't talk about how long ago that was. I'm sure we've all been there with some car we've owned. Only about 3-4 years ago you could pick up a Dino for in the 60's now 120K, 130K,140K and climbing?
330's were affordable not too long ago but have now jumped in value as well, so any other suggestions? :D

    or:
Maybe just get some gold and bury it under a big 'X' somewhere?

Buy the car that makes you smile the most and forget the rest. It is all an illusion.

    if I was going to get another F I'd get a 512BBi, 550 Barchetta, or an F430 Scud, maybe a 16M

but now I'm shopping for a Ford Excursion Diesel 4x4 and maybe a 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo

Maserati 3500gt vignale spyders are going to go crazy soon is my guess. they are absolutely stunning and priced far too low. same for Maserati 300s when they are available.

In other words none of the existing searches give me a sure-fire 100 % tip on what will increase in value

Actually its worse they almost all say I should buy a car to enjoy and if it happens to increase in value then thats a bonus

Surely they they cannot be serious ?

    Dennis I believe they are

Be careful of the diesel in the Excursion - I am sure you know they stopped making them in 2005 - unfortunately - if you get an older one with the powerstroke you will probably be OK - but watch out for the 6.0 built at the end - plenty of problems - they were either fine or a disaster right out of the box - make sure you have all maintenance records to see what you are getting

Yup, they ARE correct. The first prerequisite for me is to buy a car to enjoy, everything else is just gravy. I drive my cars, always have, always will. Some get a great car and just look at it as art but drive it little, some are purley speculators and look at it as an investment. Personally, I want it all and that of course is up to every individual to decide. My favorite Ferrari is the 275 GTB, long or short nose, but unfortunately I don't have the 800-900K lying around at the moment, maybe someday? So, my goal is to get a Ferrari that I can go out to the garage at 2:00 am and just stare at as art, drive the hell out of it in the twisty's, meet friends and fellow car nuts on the grass, under the trees on a warm Sunday afternoon sipping ice tea, and of course, it would be nice if the Ferrari of choice would appreciate in value someday. If it does great, if not, that's fine too because I'll have miles of smiles and the memories of good friends and good times that will last forever.
We all share the same passion for the marque whatever our reasons may be, no matter what Ferrari you drive. I would like to think that even a pure speculator deep down feels just a wee bit of that passion that is Ferrari.:)

cars are not investments..they are cars.

I have or have had 14 Ferraris and broke even, made or lost a little on all but one. The only one I made any significant amount of money on I had for 32 years. Money in the bank at compounded interest would have done better, especially when you count ins, maint, storage and the occasional 80K paint job.

Ding!! Ding!!! Ding!!!! We have a winner !!!!!!!

Every cent I put into my car, to include the original purchase price, I just dropped into a metalic brown, horsey monikered toilet and pushed the handle.

And you cannot put a pricetag on a good ride or a good ****. :D

The real profits are probably in restored vintage Ferraris that you buy properly and lock in a climate-controlled room somewhere. Yee haw...

Among the late Enzo-era stuff, I think F40s have been off their peak and should hold value, and the 512BBi/308 QV/328 will eventually be collectible once the economy rights itself. I like these four because they are very driveable, but also very old school (last of the body-on-frame cars, etc.)

I don't think anything from the Montezemolo era is an investment (maybe the Enzo?), although the right answer is to buy what you enjoy and then go out and enjoy it.

    None.

Cars fall apart over time just sitting there. Then, add routine maintenance, insurance, and an occasional breakdown. Cars are a lousy investment so buy it because you want it, not because it "may" eventually make money.
