I know a lot of people disagree, but if I had a crashed 308 I would really consider it.
But I love this part at the end: "Good luck with your bidding." Uhhhh, it is not an auction, it is a Buy It Now only sale. There's no bidding, so yeah, good luck with it.

 

I think someone said that the true 288 GTO has a longer wheelbase, so the bodywork/kits never look completely correct. But for a wrecked car or one that might be too much to restore properly, this would be perfect.

The 288 had a 96.4-inch wheelbase, while the 308 was 92.1 inches. The track is also different -- with the 288 sporting 62.6 inches in the front / 61.5 inches at the rear, but 57.5 inches front and rear for the 308. Overall length difference, however, between a Euro 308 and 288 is just 2/10ths of an inch.

Still, why make your car look like a fake GTO (and decrease its real-world value) when you can keep it looking like a real 308 -- one of the most beautiful cars made?

I personally would never put the 288GTO kit on my car but it could be a cool option for a really junked out 3x8 or a really bad car wreck...the cost seems fair too..i mean try doing body work on your 3x8 for less than $10,000 ???!!!

I know, some may argue that they like the 288 GTO but can not afford one but even after the conversion you still do not have one ...

No offense, just personal opinion. Give me a 328 nose over a 308 any day.

Of course this is coming from the person who can't spell the word 'not' correctly, so, you know...

 

I always have to laugh at the absurdity of refering to any Ferrari as ugly, or not desirable. For a long time as a young man I dreamed about owning "A Ferrari".

 

No, that's not true also. I do like the brand in general, i do like my own two girls (the most) but for me it's not a straight line: I do not like any model JUST BECAUSE it's a ferrari.

There are a couple of current and older models that i simply do not fancy. I guess that's the beauty of being human.

 

328 nose is better looking than US-spec 308's, simply because of the 308's big black bumpers, still can't beat the Euro 308.


Regarding the 288 GTO body shell: I don't believe in phony looks, no matter how well-executed, that imply a car is faster than it is.

Being dusted by V6 Hondas is indignity enough to suffer in a stock QV, much less a hokey GTO.

With the groundrules that I keep my 308, have $40K to spend on improvements, and screw the market value of the finished product: I'd leave the car "stock", and spend the money on allout performance mods.

 

The US 308 bumpers can be pushed in for free , if that's all that bothers you. Drill out the front shocks and remove the spacers from the rear.
I like the Euro style 308 front grill, it's hard to beat.

 

I know, I've even seen an ad for relacement euro-style bumpers.

I love the Euro look, but I'm willing to put up with the US-spec bumpers for damage-protection reasons. After one totaled Ferrari, it makes sense, especially in a heavy-traffic place like Dallas.

Another problem is insurance. My car is insured as box-stock; if I modified it with different bumpers they might well not pay up in an accident. A totaled 308, I could absorb; a big bucks personal-injury lawsuit with insurance denied, I couldn't.
