I doubt if anyone has anything good to say about glovebox strut on the 348. They appear to have about a 100% failure rate, even though they have almost no load on them. My NEW Ferrari-supplied strut lasted less than a year, so I never bothered to replace it again. Junk.

Thanks, I appreciate the link. I'm going to show her a little this year, so I would like to have everything functional.

Now that I have the Ipod connection in the glove box I actually have a need to go into it more than once a year to store my insurancd certificate. Naturally I found the two year old strut was toast so here is a fix that can't last any less time than a new strut.

I found that an O-ring, AS 568 #008, I/D 3/16 and O/D 5/16, slid over the 6 mm shaft and fit snugly. Cover the shaft with clear packing tape, then apply a very very tiny bead of Gorilla super glue around the edge of the strut shaft housing. Slide the o-ring into the recess of the strut housing and clean up any obvious squeeze out that could cause function or appearance problems. After the glue hardens removed the tape, ensure it slides without moving the o-ring and reinstall.

So far it works as well as a new one, only you don't spend $50.

Thanks for this fix; If I read the procedure correctly, the o ring should sit in the recess of the shaft and there should be no adhesive on the shaft. I assume the friction of the o-ring against the shaft is what will keeping the glove box elevated.
