I'm planning a weekend project to refinish the plenum on my 84 QV. To do it right, I think I should remove from engine. Has anyone done this..anything I should be aware of?? It looks straight forward.

There's *lots* of threads on this.
Do a search: the 308 section is best

In a nutshell: due to the location of the nuts, gaskets & general aggravation - leave it on!
    mask off the area
    use VHT Wrinkle paint
I then used regular corrso rosso(sp?) over the VHT to match the body.
    came out great

Actually its pretty easy to get off... two things to watch out for.

    1. you need s curved wrenches to get to the nuts holding the plenum on ...

    2. There are spacers on the studs that you have to make sure dont drop into the intake... or else its a further tear down... not fun.

also be carefull with the banjo bolt used for the cold start valve... I broke mine by torquing it too much... its like $20 for one bolt...

otherwise pretty easy, if time consuming ... cheers!

Ditto on the comments from spirot. For a more durable finish, you might want to consider having it and the intake manifolds powder coated. For the spacers, once you take the bolts out and before you lift the box, slide a piece of thin card board between the top of the manifolds and the underside of the rubber gasket to stop the spacers from dropping down in the intake plenum.
