Guys, can anyone confirm the material used on the original chairs n flairs seats? I thought they were leather with vinyl inserts but I have recently found some supposed NOS black vinyl daytona style seat covers and won't be at home for a couple of weeks to trawl through any reference books. Any thoughts? Leonard Green

I have seen some vinyl Daytona seats in european cars.
I think vinyl was quite common in the early 70ties.

Guys, many thanks. I am always amazed at how little I actually know about these cars. If I can work out how to do it, I will post some photographs of the vinyl c&f seat covers I have. Thanks again for the input.

This is probably a really stupid question... but I'm trying to learn here...

What, exactly, does "Chairs and Flairs (or Flares)" mean???

:) Rather than flaming you. Chairs = daytona pattern seats matching the look from the Daytona. Flares equals flared wheel arches with a 90 degree angle (ie straight out from the fender) rather than a slope of 45 degrees down from the fender. Flared cars fitted with wider campagnolo wheels.

The desirable combo is Flares, Chairs and Air (for AC). Estimates suggest a few hundred flares and chairs cars out of the Dinos.

"Chairs and Flares" was an option on the Dino. A limited number of cars was produced with this option.

This web site will explain it for you:

    http://www.dinoregister.com/production.php

Go to the Wide Wheels section!

The "Flares" are the extended flares around the wheel wells and the "chairs" are the Daytona seats. I've included pictures of my car for your reference.

Mike- They were separate options, too, so it is possible to have a Dino with chairs and not flares, and a Dino with flares and not chairs. Mix in air and there are seven combinations possible. Not to mention leather, etc.

Actually, they were ONLY separate options- there was no "chairs & flares" package so, as Terry says, there are Dinos with flared fenders/Campy wheels but standard seats.

What would the alternating "chairs" color be for a red car with black interior? Does anyone have pics to document the color options available?

In short, Chairs and Flares indicates the epitome of the breed and was a style setter in several ways:

    - The end of the series had a "special" performance version with different wheel and tire offered. The C&F Dino was the first Ferrari to start this trend that continues on until today (e.g. 360 CS, SCUD, 348, 355, Barchetta, 575 SuperAmerica, etc.)
    - The flared arches were the forerunner of a styling change. On the Dino the Flares option arches extend out to a sighting line where if you look down the body the front and rears line up in a visual line of sight. This same longitudinal styling cue can be seen in the Boxers that followed.

Thanks for not flaming me... ! :D

And, NOW I understand... thank you.

You have an absolutely gorgeous car...thanks for posting the pics...

Terry, thanks for that... I appreciate it.

Would you consider Ferrari a company that offers few options, or one that offers lots of options when a car is specially ordered? Just wondering.

You know what they say... be brave or go home... but it was with more than a little trepidation that I posted the question... ! :D

Now that you mention it... it becomes very obvious... wow... thanks for that...

You know, you guys really are great, regardless of what the guys in the 348/355 section say about you...

    :D
