In LA on biz...Anyone know a good ear Doc?

    Hello Everyone,

    I am in a bit of a predicament. I flew in to LA yesterday and my ears were in terrible pain. I always get this on flights because my ear canals cannot equalize the pressure. Usually I take some Affrin and try really hard to pop my ears. The last few flights I have had success with that process.
    However, this flight to L.A. was terrible. My one ear simply would not pop. I think I might have punctured my eardrum as well, and that really hurt. My ear did equalize a bit eventually, about an hour away from LAX.

    Now the problem, I have to leave to go back home tomorrow but I cant decide if I should just grin and bear the pain or go see a doctor here. I am more or less concerned with any possibility of long term damage. I don’t know if my ears are more plugged up more now or what… Just something tells me I am going to get on the plane tomorrow with even more pain. I absolutely hate flying solely for this problem.
    Does anyone here know a good ear doctor they could recommend? I know no one over here…. If one of you would be so kind to PM me, or even give me a call on my cell (that would be better actually) 586.612.7055.

    I'd just check out an urgent care place. A really top notch ear guy will probably be all booked up anyway. I'd definitely get it checked out before flying again. Good luck.

    They may see you same day if you explain your circumstances.

    For future reference, never hold your nose to try to pop your ears. I damaged an eardrum doing that. It's usually a decongestant like Sudafed, Tylenol Cold and Sinus or Advil Cold and Sinus that works best for me. I take them before the flight and have relatively little problems with the pressure. If I don't, I end up in your shoes.

    He's the best. He was referred to us though a group of doctor's who all know one another and we got introduced to this group by my son's friend from school, who's father owns Tower Imaging, one of the largest MRI facilities in Southern California. These guys all know each other. My wife's first Dr. was a cancer specialist (Dr. Leuchter - a miracle-worker physician!) at Cedar Sinai in Beverly Hills, who has is "own wing" practically, in that hosptial. He originally referred us to Dr. Aroesty.

    Give him a call. Tell him David and Terri Driver sent you to him.

    You can look these guys up on the internet. Their reputations speak for themselves.

    Hello Everyone,
    I appreciate everyone’s responses. Unfortunately I was only in LA for one full day so I had to leave the next. I went to the clinic right by LAX. The doctor there said I had an ear infection and I should avoid flying. There was nothing else she could do. I went and bought some Sudafed. The lady at the counter said that they have the more powerful stuff in back but I had to sign for it. I went with that and also my Affrin before the flight. I blew my ears out on the way up and it worked!
    Thank you all for your help! I have to say, you guys really do have it made in LA car wise. Very spoiled with that weather and road quality…you should see Detroit.

    i was told you CANNOT do any damage to your ears by holding your nose and blowing. i have same problem and best ear ent guy in soflo told me this..hate flying for the same reason
