Does anyone know where to get a new one for a 1980 308gtsi?? I understand they're unobtainable....
Mine died while the car was laid up for a year during it's rebuild.

    Thanks for advice.

    GT Car parts

    Dennis McCann.

I just replaced mine. I believe McCann shows yours on his website. thoughicouldbewrong...

NOPE, just checked using PN# 116987 and here's what I found:

    116987 SPEEDOMETER SENDING UNIT, 308i/308QV/328/348/512BBi (MARELLI/VEGLIA # 680517) $175.75

Personally, I would call GT Car parts first with that Part Number. They typically have the best prices. FWIW.

    Welcome to sender hell (sorry).

    1. I cleaned my connections ( removed the spades from the nylon and and cleaned them with contact cleaner - reassembled ) and the sender WORKED!
    2. If that does not work MAKE SURE you order the correct sender - most suppliers do not accept returns on electrical componets (which senders are).
    3. Is your sender mounted on the top or the botom of the transaxle?

My parts book for my 81 showed it on the BOTTOM but mine was on the TOP part #106324/124146. The price is about double for the TOP - GT parts, T.Rutlands, Ricambi.

    Great info. Thanks!
I'll start with getting mine out and cleaning it well. I have some boat electrical contact cleaner I'll use.

If that doesn't work, I'll call GT and Eurospares.
    Thanks again.

When you put the connectors back together use ( and I can't spell) dielectric grease. It is used to make good contact and prevent corrision (rust).

*** + 1, use dielectric grease whenever you pull any electrical connector apart. I use contact cleaner first, make sure the contacts are clean and dry , then the dielectric grease to prevent future corrosion.

I DO have a cable running to mine. :) Sorry about that confusion...!
I had looked at all the different senders for the various 308 models. No real consistency with these.
